I have read all the reviews of both of these knives and I am leaning toward the 17. All the reviews I read are a little old. Can someone give me an updated reason why I should go with the 16 over the 17. Btw I am going to EDC this knife for self defense. Thanks

for self defense, the 17 is probably better because of the clip point blade. Drop point blades are more for utility than anything else. I would get the 17 either way because I like the bowie style blade on it.

I would choose the BK-17 for your stated purpose. I would choose the BK-16 as a woods knife, but I have always liked the clip point bowie styled blade shape in fixed blades.

The 16 is good for a bushcrafting, survival, or as a blue collar utility knife, because the tip has more material around it and its "a little less likely" to break. The 17's clip point design will make it a better slicer and stabber than the 16, so it would be better for a hunter, soldier, self defense, etc, but the bk-17 tip should be fine with normal use. The 16's tip will take more abuse, but will be less effective with stabbing and penetration than the 17.
