I have a BK17 and I like it a lot so far. The handle is very comfy! The blade is just the right size for what I needed too. I am only having one problem... The sheath is loooooong as hell. I don't like it flopping around on my leg. I know I am going to wind up with kydex eventually, but I am going to have to wait a while to get it made. So, in the meantime, is there any way to modify the stock sheath to be shorter? (short of taking it all apart and re-stitching it) I was wondering if it would be possible to take out the insert, cut it down and put it back in the cordura, and fold the end of the sheath up and tie it up somehow? Maybe with paracord? Just wanted to know if anybody has already done something like this, and if it works well.

Found some more pics of the mod I did.

Dex-

Not a bad modification. But it looks to me like you could use a little paracord through the bottom and simply tie it up around back, and still have pretty much the same overall length.

What type of dye did you use on it though?

Damn Dex you have a great Can-Do attitude and skills to back it up, awesome stuff!!!

Pretty good Dex, but I thought they liked everything bigger in Texas.

I'm actually from Louisiana and lived there till I was 25......... So it doesn't really apply in my situation. But really, I prefer practical and function ability over size.

Not sure what you mean? There is a plastic insert that goes all the way down to right above the eyelets. I shortened the plastic and moved the pocket up. It is much shorter than than the stock sheath and in my opinion should have been made like this at the factory. The 16 and 17 should have it's own sheath.

I used an alcohol based leather dye. It world really well.

Thank man. I saw a problem and figured out a way to fix the problem and make it look as if it was designed like that.

Maybe I'm a little OCD and like my stuff to fit properly. The way KA-bar made the sheath is kinda like if they just shipped the BK-10 with a BK-9 sheath. Haha. But really thats how I feel. I understand they do the tweener sheaths like that to save on costs but I still don't like it.
