BK17 tweeners for EDC?

anyone gonna carry theirs daily? considering my location (rural Iowa) im seriously considering this new knife as an EDC knife. our Iowa laws limit fixed blades at 5", and local LE (many who are friends) are pretty darn relaxed about what knife you carry, so it wouldnt be anything that could get me into legal trouble. i tend to carry a small fixed blade and a folder in my pocket (to prevent shocking folks when i pull out a "bad knife" to open a letter) and i really want to give my new BK17 a try. in the summer i fish alot, so a fixed blade is very usefull, and in the winter i hunt alot, so again, a fixed blade is my knife of choice. honestly i feel naked without a fixed on my belt, but i would like to upgrade to one a bit larger than the BK11 and TOPS Lil Roughneck ive been carrying lately.

what do you all think about this idea?

I'd say go for EDCing the 17. It's an awesome knife and I think it would be great for the EDC role.

I agree, it should be able to handle pretty much every EDC situation and is just small enough to not be cumbersome to tout around. But I would second that you'll want a small unassuming folder for use in front of non-knife folks, the clip point alone on the 17 might make it a bit scary to a few people.

im curious to see just how high riding the supplied sheath will be. if it "hangs low", i might have a leather one made to fix the problem.

The sheath offers a few carry options including scout. In my opinion the main belt loop doesn't ride 'low', but YMMV.

Do it. I actually back pocket carry my 16 for the last few days.

i know people who carry knives this large, or larger, as EDC, so, no worries there

i like that ALOT clich, care to share where you got it?

Its a sharpshooter glacier bay pocket sheath made for up to 5" blades (there are smaller options that don't fit, I own the 4" one as well) They can be found if one happens to stumble upon an auction site with buy it now options.

They are. And on the plus side should you decide you want your tweener on your belt, it still can be used for your bk11/14 just as well.

So how well do those sit in your back pocket? Like a wallet? How is it on resheathing, ever stab your butt with it?

excellent! i dont have a 14, but i do have two 11's(one for work, and one for "dress") LOL

lately its been like Christmas around here , a Condor machete, a new Becker (now a second sheath option), my TOPS Lil Roughneck. a Maxpedition pack that should arrive anyday, and a small cannon that fires golf balls is in the making. Mindy thinks im crazy, but my 2 daughters love the cool stuff i order. as Meatloaf once said, "but 2 outta 3 aint bad" :D

The longer version I keep the 16 in sits Like a wallet, and the mouth is right at the top of the pocket and fillet well. Its hard to miss once you get the feel for it. First couple times I looked to be sure but now its second nature.

Meatloaf was right, 2 outta 3 ain't at all, but the bolded and underlined name can fix that, course if she just thinks your crazy then you've got nothing to worry about, we're all crazy.

Just ordered my production BK-17 and an AZWelke sheath for it. Should be here next week sometime. I can't wait.
