I just bought my 1st Becker BK2 and I was surprised to see the handle under the slabs was skeletonized. After a little reading I see the 1st gen was solid. Does anyone know if the 2nd gen handle is prone to breaking or failing at all? Is it proving to be weaker or just as strong as the Gen 1 BK2? Thanks!

well, if you hammer the blade into a log... and then hammer on it some more while it can't move with a hammer :> you might break it sooner or later

Rofl.... This isnt the snark thread Bladite ....lol

Original BK-2 was thinner stock solid tang, new BK-2 is 1/4 inch stock skelly tang. They dont break often, but any knife can be broken.

I don't like the skeletangs because they limit modification options.

I bought my Camillus BK9HH for the purpose of modding it into a coffin style bowie. But when I removed the handles I discovered the skeletang and decided not to bother.

hoped that helped ;)

the originals were lovely and thick and convexed. there WAS a time before Camillus ya know. snark.

they could probably make those skelly tangs less skelly...

a good welder can puddle fill those as well, for various mods.

The skeletonizing makes it lighter in hand and better balanced. There is still plenty of steel there for strength :) If you bust a BK-2, it's your own fault... I will bet lunch that you'll have to try pretty hard to do it.

I very strongly suspect that "puddle welding" such a knife to fill in those gaps would do far more harm than good.

There was a fellow just recently that broke one. By hitting it with the hammer pole of an axe. OTOH There was a guy a while back that did a series of tests involving chopping cinder blocks and batoning through a lawnmower deck and several bolts. He had to grind a bit of material off the edge on a belt sander but the knife didn't break.

I just put mine in a vice with the handle slabs off I tried to flex the blade at several points along it's length including right at the blade/handle juncture. I could not get it to budge at all. It might of flexed a tiny bit. I'm 6' 190lbs and pretty strong and gave it my all. I can't see this breaking short of using a long pipe for leverage. Certainly not breaking under any normal hard use.

Got a link to that by any chance? Thanks!
