So I have been checking all the beautiful etching jobs out on here and decided to give it a go. I procured a BK-14 Eskabar and a BK-2 to experiment on.

I bought the Aircraft Remover in liquid form, soaked em for 20 min, and re-applied twice. I learned that if you don't remove the coating before you wash it off (its neutralized by water) the coating somewhat readhears itself. and get you some chemicaly resistant gloves. Latex gloves (think latex paint) disolve quicker than the paint does!

So after the aircraft remover was removed with water, i sanded with 600 grit to get the semi parkerizing off of the metal from the aircraft remover. I got the metal all shinny and removed some of the grinding marks from the factory (the black coating really hides alot).

I blued the eskabar all over and the BK-2 on the blade with cotton balls (clich).

Then they went into the bleach for 1 hour and examined. i sanded to get rust off, then washed with dish soap a couple of times. Then they both got blued all over.

The BK-2 didnt have the etch that the eskabar did so it went back in for 45 more minutes. After it was removed, sanded, and washed, it got blued again and a 1000 grit light sand to shine the high spots.

The BK-2 also got the factory grips stippled and I used some .03 g10 orange liner material and made some for it.

The .06 on the handle actually adds quit a bit to the handle feel wise. The liners combined with the stippling on the grips has a great feel to it (i want to go cut some stuff)!

Those look really nice!
Good work!
How long did the whole project take?

Thanks!
For the times: the blue and bleach finsh was probably 4 hours. The .03" liners were 2 hours and the stippling was for-ev-er (4 hours probably). Plus I had to stipple the areas that got sanded while I was wet sanding the liners.

But I did make time for some Bookers Bourbon so that might have slowed things down a bit!

Very nice sir! What does that do to add or detract from the blade rusting? Do they need just Tuf-Glide, or serious attention?

Thanks! Well as far as rusting, its not as protected from rust as when it comes from the factory. But, it hasnt rusted much if any since I blued them and sanded them with 1000 grit. I have read that mineral oil is good for protecting and safe on food prep, but so far all mine have seen is some Rem (Remington) Oil that I use on my guns. So far so good!

And now that they are finished the way they are, if they happen to get rusted up for some reason, just sand, blue, sand and its like new!

Nice job man, That Eskabar looks way better than my mustard patina job lol, the work shows.
