Here she is. The first pic is more of a natural light so you can see what the coloring actually turned out as. Another dip in the dye will be happening at some point. Either that or some flat black spray paint and some polyurethane coating. Either or.

Rest of the pics are with flash, so they look rather blue-ish for some reason, but for some reason macro defaults to that. They show the detail well though.

Anyways, here you go.

Still working on the detachable idea for it. Should work, just need proper sized magnets and some time to sew some straps. I ain't no Flexxx when it comes to the sewing, so it will take me a bit.

The firesteel is 1/2" thick by 5" long for size reference, and that is a mini bic lighter. The two bolts at the top, closest to the throat of the sheath have some washers in there, because when the whole box sat flush, you couldn't get the knife out. This worked well. It has the same retention without the box, so no noticeable difference in that.

That's like taking the hollowed out HEST handles idea to the next level!

If you'd like to see the moose AND Bladite shed tears, send it to me first! :D
Great job. Two ranger bands and you're all set.

Lol, little moose tears. You crack me up Bladdy.

Anywhoosles, for those that are late to the party, this got started, oh, maybe a month or two ago? There is an older thread about it somewheres. Anyways, I designed the box on my computer, and went to a certain company on the internets where they produce such things in a variety of plastics or even metals. No, this box will not be done in metal, the cost would be exorbitant.

The firesteel was a Christmas gift, so it didn't cost me anything. I do think it was about $20 or so though. Whatever it goes for on Amazon.

Haven't found the other thread, yet, but when are you going to market them?

Lol, probably not. Not for a bit anyways. Would have to cast my own to make it even close to cost effective. That box there cost me more than the knife.

I learned with my last project not to commit to something that I am not 100% sure how to do. Last project, still ongoing, better part of 2+ years now.

If you are looking for the other thread you can click my profile, go to stats, then go to started threads. It is one of those. Somewhere.

Off to paint it black! Back in awhile with pics!

Here be a few more pics after painting, in the usual lighting, no flash, so as to not distort the color. Came out really nice.

Awesome Derek! Great work!

So your plan is to use magnets for a connection and use straps as well?

Yeah, four rare earth magnets in the holes where the bolts go. Run a very, very short bolt (that a magnet will stick to) through the sheath in the corresponding hole with a chicago screw. Then case should snap on and off no problem. Add nylon strap around sheath to also hold on. The holes on the bottom of the box are such that they should keep this thing very stable when held on by just a nylon strap, and the magnets would be extra insurance as far as retention. Then a separate strap to hold the lid onto the body of the box.

That is the idea anyways. Reason being if you have this on your thigh, or your hip, and you kneel down to start a fire and go to open your box in that position it will spill all of your stuff. If you can remove the box though, then you can get it out without losing anything. Hopefully.
