Looking to buy a BK2 and was wondering if it is capable of making feathersticks, and the spine is able to strike sparks off a firesteel from the factory.
looking to get a beefy bushcraft knife with a blade length under 6 inches.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Absolutely. Ive batoned, carved and thrown sparks with mine many times. Its a great knife.

Sure it can be used for shaving wood, splitting kindling, and making feather sticks. It is about experience and control of the blade. It is a little short for a chopper, but you can make do. I personally would be much more comfortable with the BK-10 which has a thinner blade stock and the same blade stock as the BK-7 and BK-9.

I used the BK2 in the fire starting competition last year. Worked great!
I don't think the spine is sharp enough to throw sparks from the factory.
A little work on it and it would be good to go!

Yes. The spine will have to be squared in order to get it right for striking a ferro rod.

just uh, don't baton with a hammer ;D

In response to the op... Yep the bk2 can do just about everything. It isn't the best at some bushcraft chores but excels at others. It is a great camp knife and can process wood all day long. I put a convex edge on mine and feel it now does a better job with finer tasks like feather sticks and the edge retention is insane. It is my go to knife in the shed for starting fires in the wood stove... No cardboard and lighter are allowed... Lol. I use it to process maple from junks all the way down to tinder. I used a file to create a sharp edge on the pomel to use with a firesteel and also on the spine just cause i was bored at the time and it will throw serious sparks even with cheap mass produced walmart style firesteels. Anyways lots of people will chime in and say yep it can do it and they are right.... If you want a dedicated bushcraft knife the bk16 might be better but if you want the jack of all trades blade then the bk2 is the one.

Cheers

Thanks for the thread Warrior. I might have to look around to see if i can find someone who can do the grind for me as well because that is way outside my talent level.

Can you post a pic of that? I'm buying three BK2 knives and plan on doing mods on all of them. My kids insist I buy them a good knife, I'm not looking any further than what you guys are using here. I'm very impressed with becker, and for me it's become a passion. Thanks in advance. MJ.
