This has been asked, but I can't seem to find any definitive answer. I have seen the Companion advertised as having 4 1/2" blade and
5 1/4" blade. Which is it? Is there an older and newer version each having a different blade length than the other?

The BK-2 Campanion has a 5&1/4 inch blade...The BK-10 Crewman has a 5&1/2 inch blade.

PS...That's according to the Camillus brochure I have.

Were they *ever* made in a 4 1/2" model?

Check this: http://www.knifeoutlet.com/shop/catalog/2213.htm

and this:

and look at this one.

http://store.knifecenter.com/pgi-ProductSpec?CMBK2

The heading says 4 1/2" but, down below, the Tech Specs says 5 1/4"

I have seen a number of these on ebay that the sellers confirmed that the blade is, indeed, 4 1/2". What's the deal. Is anyone from the company on line who can clear this up?

There MIGHT be a difference in blade-length between the original Becker Campanion and the current Camillus/Becker Campanion that I'm not aware of.

ichor,
They have always been 5.25". There was some early "copy" containing specifications, put out by us unfortunately, that contained the wrong blade lenght, and ALOT of dealers "printed" it verbatum.

Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the interest!

And who would have made that knife? Quality inferior or superior to the Camillus made knife? It's kinda puzzling that no one on this Camillus forum seems to know the answer to this simple question. Or maybe the answer is in the mind of someone out there that hasn't read the question yet. :p

Ah.......finally. Thanks, Will. You would have thought some of them would have actually measured one, at some point in time, but I guess they can't do that with every knife they carry. Thanks again.

ichor,
Sorry it took me 4 and a half hours to answer your question, but I usually take a few hours off in the evening to run errands and eat dinner:rolleyes:

There have been 3 different manufacturers of BK&T CAMPANIONS. First, ETHAN himself, then the ill fated BLACKJACK KNIVES[the made and marketed Ethan's BK&T's for about 4 years], and now CAMILLUS.

They all are between 5"and 5.25" blade lenght.

Original Ethan made knives-steel was 4140 carbon and parkerised, sheath could have been EAGLE nylon or leather.[I've never actually seen one of these, but I have heardd of them].

Blackjack-steel could be 1095[grey epoxy coated] or 440c[bead blasted]. The sheaths could have been Eagle or leather.

CAMILLUS-steel 0170-6C carbon with black epoxy powdercoat, and have Kydex sheaths.

If its black coated and comes in a kydex sheath, we made it!;)

Relax, Will, because I was in no way getting on your case. I simply asked: "Is anyone from the company on line who can clear this up?" I wasn't suggesting that a company rep should be on 24 call to answer questions.

Then I said: "Or maybe the answer is in the mind of someone out there that hasn't read the question yet". Again, I wasn't suggesting that it should be a company rep at my beck and call. I just know, from experience, that, no matter which forum one goes to, there always seem to be those who know every little nook and cranny of every knife (gun, bike, whatever), ever made. I was simply surprised that *someone* had not responded with an answer.

I then said: "Ah.......finally." That was an "ah, finally" for me, that now I have the answer. I should have said "eureka". Things like this bug me until I find out the truth. I wasn't, in any way, implying "ah, finally someone from the the company got off their ass and answered my question in four hours!"

Thanks again for providing the info I was wanting. I have no problem with you taking time away from this forum to eat dinner.

:p;)

No problem buddy......love those BECKERS:cool:

I love everything I've *heard* about Beckers (bang for the buck, etc.) , unfortunately, I don't yet own one. I'm waiting to hear from a guy to confirm just how long the blade is on the one he's selling. It doesn't really matter, as I would probably buy it, regardless, I just like to know for sure what I'm buying.

I also have a small aavings stash, that is about half way to a BK9. Every time I hear someone, on the forum, say "Wow, this is one big knife", I want to save a bit faster. Take care.

I have to make one more entry. I have personally contacted the seller of this knife and explained the confusion. He replies that he has measured the knife and it is, in fact, 4 1/2" in blade length. So, I don't know quite what to make of it, even now.

If it is, in-fact, a BK2 Campanion, I think that your "friend" needs to get a better measuring device.:).
