How does this work? I have read a lot about people using the back of their BK2 and a firesteel. Can anyone aim me to a link, vid or picture about how this is done? Thanks.

I dont know of any pics or video, you might search youtube. But all you do is use the edge of the spine as your striker. If the edge is too round it wont work well so a file or sandpaper to sharpen up the edge will help.

First get the coating off.

Then get some sand paper on a flat suface

Sand the hell of the back of your bk flat. removing the factory marks.

Scrape your ferro rod.

Belt sanders are your friend.....I think I remember E2E making a video on how he squared the spine on his BK2. Check out his web page/youtube channel.

2nd that
Even if its not there check it out anyway, Adam and his crew have really good informational videos all very Becker friendly.

Does anyone know how well the back of the BK2 hold up as a fire starter striker? I am interested in cutting a radius with a dremel and don't want to do it if the striker edge breaks down too easily. If it works it would be nice because I've seen a lot of Kydex sheaths that hold the fire starter with a simple elastic lanyard but I haven't seen one with a way of holding the striker.

All you need is a sharp enough edge to bite into the ferro rod, he'll you can use your car keys if you had to!

I have a small piece of a hacksaw blade I keep with my striker and that works just as well

BK2 spine should hold up just fine for use as a firesteel striker.

Im guessing the material used in a typical fire steel is softer than the BK2 and should hold up fine. I personally dont like the feel of a hacksaw blade. I do like the striker that came with the coghlans. SO here is how I attached it.

I do plan on making the notch on the spine but havent gotten there yet.

firesteel attached to sheath using wire clamps, secured with cordlocks on paracord lanyard.
