Hi people! The reason I got into Beckers in the first place was because I'm an amateur entomologist as well as a knife nut. I wanted a thick, sharp piece of steel to pry the bark off dead trees in search of beetles, and the BK2 seemed the obvious choice. I have since used it on several collecting trips with my dad (professional entomologist), and it has performed very well. Tomorrow I'll be leaving on a >1 week collecting trip to Arizona, and I'll see if I can finally push my BK2 to the breaking point. :P

I'll see if I can get some pics of it in action and post them here when I get back.

I am pretty sure this knife is close to indestructible! I have seen some crazy stuff done with it here.

You need a longer becker to fend off the woodpeckers angry at you for raiding their lunchbugs.

I recommend a 5 or a 9.

Good luck on your quest!

WOW!!!!! I thought I was the only one who was into entomology and arachnology. been hunting critters since I was a child.

Definitely need to see some pictures, both of the Bk2, and of the critters you find.
Hope you have a good, and safe, trip.

When I'm out I'm usually trying to fend off bugs not hunt for more, but if you need to take apart a tree, the 2 should get it done.

very cool. i enjoy that kind of thing as well. although i rarely go on trips in searh of them. about a month ago I found a Stick bug in my car. My 3 yr old thought it was the coolest thing. Post some pics if you can. the 2 is almost too much of a knife for what you are using it for... lol. enjoy!

Another amateur entomologist here. Thought I was the only one too....Any species in particular you are looking for on this trip?

all these bug fanciers coming out of the woodwork.

I'd like to see pics of COOL bugs, not gross ones. (stick bugs, praying (preying?) mantis, etc.)

I'm back! Sadly I wasn't really able to put my BK2 to any use... We didn't make it to the pine forests (mostly burned) where it would have been useful. I still got some awesome bugs though!
Here are some pics of the best looking ones:

Lucanus mazama

Chrysina beyeri

Dynastes granti (what I was looking for!)

Strategus aloeus

Copris arizonensis

Phanaeus quadridens

I don't like bugs, but those are pretty sweet. Are the last two as big as the others?

Wow! Thats really cool man! I've lived in AZ all my life and have never seen some of those critters!
Thanks for sharing!

Nice pics, it is crazy how much different each beetle is from the other.

Good choice on the BugKnife-2 also :D

You know, I bet those would be delish dipped in chocolate...

I'm not much of a bug guy but that is a cool use for the tool. If you like the 2 you should checkout the Crewman. Another wicked little prybar :D

ooh, some of those look like grapevine beetles :)
