Bk2 Handle question

I Just Received My New Bk2 And Bk11 From Tomars Ka-bars. While Checking Out The Bk2 I Noticed That There Are Noticable Gaps Where The Handle Slabs Meet The Tang. The Gaps Are Most Noticable At The Hilt And Pommel Areas. Looks Like The Handles Are Warped. I Tried Tightening The Screws, Didn't Help. Took The Handles Off And There Is A Visable Warp To Them. Does Anyone Else Here Have A Bk2, That They Can Compare It To. I Have Contacted Kabar And Just Waiting To Hear Back From Them. IT MAY JUST BE ME BUT THE GAPS SEEM TO BE THE PERFECT PLACE FOR MUD,SAND OR WATER ETC. TO COLLECT AND POSSIBLY DAMAGE THE TANG

Pics would help. Please let us know what Kabar has to say.

My two new Kabar BK2's have the same scale warp and gaps. I agree with the dirt and moisture comments. looking forward to your report from Kabar. One of mine also has a terribly uneven point grind. The other is perfect. I know they're only 65 bucks or so, but......! Will be contacting kabar myself. Love the little Bruisers though!!!!!!!

Cutterman- Just got an email from Ka-bar customer service. She said to return them and they would check them out. After finding the defect in the BK2 I decided I to give the BK11 the once over. When viewing it from the pommel end and looking down the spine it is obviously bent to the left. I was thinking it was me and had a buddy look at it and he says, "hey this thing is crooked". Needless to say I am not very happy with my purchase, which is a shame because I loved the heft of the BK2 and was looking for a hard use knife. I will update when I get them back.

my BK11 seems ever so slightly bent. It's really not that big of a deal. The fit of the handles towards the hilt on my BK2 aren't perfect, but in no way will they effect performance.

I agree about the functionality. I may just be particular, but I cant stand the gaps or bend. To me it indicates poor quality control or design or both.

Icemancomes, thanks for the info. I got a BK9 with my first BK2 and returned it due to the blade being seriously warped (bent). The edge had a serious bow in it to match. Never should have gotten by QC. As has been dicussed on this Forum, it's made of thinner blade stock than my older Camillus BK9, and I didn't care personally for that, aside from the warped blade. I had the BK9 replaced by the vender, with that second BK2, which also has the scale gaps, and the way uneven point grind. Let me know down the road, how you make out with Kabar. There are variations in all knives. Bent blades and "way off" grinds are problems with me. Nothing's perfect. I understand this. The problem is buying knives through the mail. No one around me stocks Beckers. You get examples you would pass on if you could handle several in a store and pick one out. Keep me posted on your Kabar service. Thanks, the "cutterman"

Hey Icemancomes and Cutterman....

I am certainly sorry for the inconvenience of having to send your BECKERs back to Ka-Bar....The problems with the gaps where the slabs meet the tang are not common- but they do happen.....I am certain that after my discussion with Paul yesterday that QC is more than aware of this now and also the bent blade thing....All sharpening is still done by hand and minor variations in final bevel are common but if a tip is rounded off it is a prob that should have been caught in QC........If you send your blades back please mark them: attn. Paul Tsugimoto and include your forum handle so I know who Paul is talking about....This IS important to me as well as Ka-Bar......

Please bear in mind that Ka-Bar is in start up mode on the BECKERs and they are refining the process as fast as they can......Paul mentioned to me that after decades of mfg. the original "Ka-BAR" they still find ways to tweak quality and the same will be true of the BECKERs.

Give us a chance to make it right and we will.....

All Best...

ethan

Mr. Becker,

Thanks for the response and information. I know that customer service and quality control are important to you as well as Ka-Bar.

Thanks again.

I have two new BK 9's one slabs fit perfect the other the slabs are warped but not much
thats my user.I just five minutes ago ordered a BK 2 and it better be just right or I'm gonna rage! on Ka bar's QC,Becker knives deserve better than being slaped together by
some lazy sloppy mope!!!!It tears my scrotum to hear about your knives (Icemancomes, cutterman,JakeBauer)to many people with F*#ked up beckers!!!!!!!
Ethan please make a call to the fine folks at ka bar and make them step up the QC.
your knives are to good for sloppy workmanship!

dont feel sorry for me bro, mine are great, a couple very small cosmetic issues are no big deal to me.

I never noticed any bend on my BK and I had taken the handles off to apply a little grease to prevent rust. There was no bend or gap in mine before or after. Sorry to hear about yous Icemancomes, cutterman, JakeBauer. I agree whole heartedly with Exidor. These are an excellent product. IMO a high quality working mans knife at a reasonable price point.l I don't expect safe queens or collectors mine has a very minor ding on the spine no big deal. I am pleased to note it has not gotten anymore even with some hard use. But shoddy workmanship is unacceptable, these are far to good a product to turn into a cheap knife. I also hope that Ethan says something as I suspect he will it is his name on these knives. He has worked far to hard to establish his stellar reputation have it turned to mud.

Mine are on the way back to Ka-Bar as Ethan suggested. Will update when i get them back. I bought the BK-2 for a "hard use" knife, but did find the scale gaps unaccepetable. I know from my other Ka-Bars that Ka-Bar can produce a quality product. I am confident that it will be resolved.

I too have issues with my first ever beckers.I didn't happen to buy a BK2 but I get a BK9,BK11 and BK11csm.The first thing,I did noticed on my BK9 was the blade was slightly curved to the right, just like my glock knife but not as much as the glock.Enough.On the Bk11,I did notice while looking down at the blade's spine that was perfectly straight but the tip was ground towards the right;like a chisel.I don't know if it's should be a major deal but I'm think of keeping it as is.

And today,I decided to go outside into some better light and take another look at the handle since it was mentioned that there are gaps in the handle and was surprise to see what others ment. While the whole blade is entirely coated,I doubt rust will be a problem under the scales.

I too,am also going to take Ethan's suggestion and return my BK9.

Thank you Mr. Becker, for your kind response to our postings on these Q C issues. I was going to return, to my vender, the badly ground point BK2 for a refund, and wait for after market grips for the other, but thanks to your response, I will return both my BK 2's to Kabar, this week, attn: Mr. T. for service.
Many thanks for recognizing these as "real" issues. Less expensive should not mean poor fit and sloppy grinding, and a big thank you for backing us up with Kabar. They appear to be serious about fixing the problems. Admirable indeed, in these times, as are you!
Have always loved your designs.

The cutterman

Update!.........1/31/09.........Just packed up my two BK2's for the trip back to Ka Bar.

Mr. Becker, if you read this, I forgot to put my forum name in my enclosed letter, but did reference your advising us, on the Forum, to send them in c/o Mr. Tsugimoto. Will call Mr. T at Kabar this week and give a heads up. Again, thanks so much for your understanding and help in this matter.

Update...........2/5/09..........Just got an E from Carole, and Mr Tsugimoto at Kabar, that my two BK2's arrived yesterday, and will be serviced and sent back today or tomorrow. Glad to read below that others sent in have been returned in good order.

the BK 2 is a beast of a knife!!!!.I have alot more things that need cutting and chopping
on. Ethan excellent design excllent knife!!!

Got my BK2 back last evening. Handles are much better, not perfect, but better. It will suffice for what I plan on using the knife for. BK11 was replaced with a new one. Mr. T. did what he could to correct the problem on the handle issue. I do hope that Ka-Bar continues to improve the QC, as these should have never been deemed acceptable. My thanks to Mr. Becker and Mr. T for addressing the issue.

(I do hope that Ka-Bar continues to improve the QC, as these should have never been deemed acceptable.) 100%!!! consistent products make consistent customers,ka-bar
should know this by now!

i was so happy to hear that kabar was working with bkt to bring back becker's line of camping knifes. i figured i'd finally get to replace the campanion i'd lost years ago. i ordered it online and i was very disappointed when i got my new kabar bk2 with the same problems everyone else seems to be talking about here. the handle has gaps and ridges, the grind is way off and i had to file off sharp edges on the sheath as well. my original "campanion" was beautiful and much better quality! i've had to send way to many products back because of piss poor workmanship, i'm sick of it! like my time's worth nothing! i'll deal with this bk2 the way it is and always regret loosing the original. no more wasting money online for me. when you can't trust established names like bk&t and kabar, to get it right, who can you trust
