Hey guys,
I intend on blowing the trigger on a BK2 as soon as I tie a couple of other loose ends. Also waiting on Tomars to get more stock in. Can you believe they're sold out again...???
Main reason I chose Tomars is they stock micarta also & would save on combined shipping.
Though I'm wondering what your opinions might be as a first time Becker owner. Micarta or not?
Reason I like micarta is for looks mainly, I hear it's also 'warmer' in the hands.
I have no doubts about the grivory though.
Either way I know I won't have any regrets.
SHould I start off with training wheels(grivory) first then move up to micarta or just have the best of both worlds in one go?
Thanks for your input!

Yeah man, get some micarta. Then you'll know first hand what you like better.

Go ahead and get it, save the shipping cost. If you don't like it, you can always sell it, for sure.

I like the grivory, and have been taking all my BKT's back to grivory. Right now, my BK7 is the only one that has micarta.

Its good stuff, I just like the grivory, myself. YMMV.

Either way, save the money and save the wait, go ahead and get them both.

Yes, get the micarta. It takes the feel of the 2 to a whole new level

it's too much power, i'd skip it ;)

or go for it!

It's strictly a matter of taste. They are both excellent grips. I think the grivory gets a bad rap about being slick, but I've never had a problem with it and I've never gotten a hot spot from it. I love the micarta as well. It gives the knife a really solid feel. I think the fal'er from Oregon gave you some good advice. Get the micartas, try them both and you can choose for yourself.

Damn! Three posts while I was typing.

I've got both, I've used both, and I love both. Like you, the main reason I purchased micarta was for the aesthetics, but I thought it would be "grippier" as well. It really all boils down to preference.

I say get 'em. Like someone said earlier, you can always sell 'em if you don't like 'em.

For the longest time I was all like "screw spending $40 on some handles" and then I won some in the contest here and they are super super nice!!!

They feel good, solid and take some of the shock when splitting wood. Also they just look nice!

Dude for $45, try manufacturing those SOB's , $45 is a stinking bargain. I'll spend 4 or 5 hours at least on a set. I have zero problems buying them. Bargain I say.

I ordered mine without so that I could evaluate the stock grips.

One of the biggest selling points to me on the BK2 was the quality / price ratio. As there is absolutely nothing wrong with the stock grivory, I see no reason to spend the additional money on micarta grips.

I would rather apply the cost of acquisition towards another knife.

Believe me, I think they look great - but I don't see the examples of the stock grips not working or failing at all.

To me it is simple math:

BK2 + BK11 > BK2 + micarta

BK2 + BK11 > BK2 + micarta[/QUOTE

This is just what i did and when Moose
gets the discount micarta in, then maybe
i will pick some up for the Bk 2 ,not that it
really needs it but i want to check it out.
Bk 11 is really nice with a para wrap.
These two are a really killer combo.

Will these Micarta scales fit a Camillus Brute? What is the best place to buy them? Thanx--KV

The one flaw in the grivory, in my opinion, is the smoothness or lack of texturing. Why else would so many here modify them? If you like the factory grivory, cool. I however found it to be slippery with sweaty hands. The Micarta is very handsome to look at and is a tiny bit thicker on my BK-2 which gives me a wonderful hand filling grip. It also feels less slippery to me. The grivory is tough, light weight and can be modified if you so desire, all attributes. I lean toward the micarta for utilitarian and asthetic preferences. I doubt however that I will ever put Micarta on my BK-5 because I don't want to change its wonderful light weight feel.
