BK2 or BK10?

I already have a BK10, and a BK2 is on its way in a recent trade I made. From what I've read in the last few months, the BK2 is an insanely popular knife with the Becker crowd. Do you think that if the BK10 was still being made more people would select it over the BK2, or would the BK2 still be as loved as it is even with the "competition?"

if the bk10 was more popular than the bk-2 ethan would have chosen to have it produced by ka-bar instead of the bk-2

said another way, the BK02 was Ethan's second knife design, and he's mighty proud of it, and for good reason, it's something like 25 years old now?

the BK10 was a ... military variation...

with the weight of them nearly the same, at this point, the only major differences between the two would be the thumb ramp (the military goes ape shit for these, for some reason, civilians, esp bushcrafters seem to remove them on other models/brands that have them often enough...), the thickness, and the tip style.

i'm really not seeing the lust for them, but i know, if you love something... you just gotta wait for it ;)

I like the BK-10. I love the BK-2.

Ethan hit it out of the park with the BK-2.

it's remarkable i think, that his first two knives have evolved so little, he did them so well from the get go.

now, certain implementation, notably the gray epoxy coat days were not the best, but the early ones, were fantastic, and KaBar is doing them proud now.

still, there's a serious magic in those hard chrome models... they are like unto precision instruments, and sharp? whoa. amazing.

if i had me a proper belt grinder, i'd take a whole catalog worth of the new KaBar Beckers, strip them, concave them, duracoat them, and go find Godzilla :>

How much should something like that evolve? Sometimes, ya get it right on the first try.

I've never seen the hard chrome models, so I can't comment on those. I, too, think that KA-BAR's doing an outstanding job on them now, though.

If you go hunting Godzilla, you're on your own. I do want film, though.:D

Okay, I have seen those before. For some reason I thought they were just stripped and polished.

There's a word for those things: Gorgeous.

If any of you wondered who has the most old Becker goodies, just look at Bladite's collection. It doesn't get any better.

yeah, no, those are not stripped. they COME that way... well, came that way. it's been a while :>

and the fit and finish and feeling of POLISH is like touching sci-fictional frictionless materials.

here's some original ad copy, notice the layout format ;) also notice the prices. yow.

Wow. That was a long time ago.

The ad layout is kinda dated now, and the prices... well, a BK-2 goes for less than that now, after all these years.

Probably shouldn't mention it, but I write better copy, and do better ads (it's what I do, after all). Still, it's really neat to see old stuff like this. I'd love to have any of those.

i know, right? well, they go for a little less now, as they were basically handmade back then, and CONVEXED... :) that's how they're supposed to be boys and girls. yar.

there's a ton of that old copy. it's good stuff.

I love to look at old ads. After more than thirty years in the ad biz, you'd think I would get tired of it: nope. Still love it, and I still pick up ideas and techniques from old stuff.

I like that they were convexed back then. That took some time to do by hand, even on a slack belt. Those old things sure are purdy, they are.

Even though they're similar on paper, they handle like very different beasts to me (I can't speak for the new model of the BK2 of course). They BK2 is just a little bit too cumbersome in my hands. The BK10 is a very nice compromise, and feels just right. I could do without the thumb ramp but I don't care too much either way.

The 'Ritter' version, that I really really hope will be produced soon, should be a very awesome variation.

I have never held a 10 so this might be unfair. It was 0.188" thick compared to the 02 currently at 0.250" thick. Form and function aside, there's just something about holding a 1/4" thick piece of sharpened steel in your hands that feels manly.

I am going to go against the flow here, and say the BK-10.

The weight just feels right in my hand, where the BK-2 feels heavy. I know, you can chop with the BK-2...but if I am going to chop I will use a BK-9 or a BK-1. The BK-10 has batonned plenty of wood too. Finally, I prefer the BK-10 sheath, I like the little pocket for holding a few PSK type items.

Ill go against the flow as well

I have all of them BK2 thru BK10 and if I had to go with a slightly larger knife than the BK2 I would choose the BK7 the blade is a little blunt on the BK10 for me and I like the balance of the 7 better.
