They use the same blade steel, thickness and length and width (+-). Do they use the same heat treat? Forget about the warranty, price or the micarta handles or the glass breaker pommel. Would the BK2 give the RC5 a run at its money or is the RC5 clearly the better "Survival" knife?

Same heat treat?

I own the BK-2 and I regret it...it's useless to me . It's too thick, too heavy, too wide etc...The RC-5 is also 1/4 inch. thick but the ergo are way better. If you are looking for a survival knife you'll be better off with the RC-6 or the BK-10...that's my oppinion!!!!

Check out the RAT 5. I love the small company feel of RC knives. The RC3 is one of my all time favorites but the RAT 5 is def. a more useable knife than the RC5. Same size but half the thickness and the sheath is smaller and more compact.

The heat treats are NOT the same. Rowen uses a proprietary heat treat and does a far better job at it than Ka-Bar or Ontario.

The ergonomics of the RC5 are much better than the BK2, a far more comfortable handle in my opinion.

The sheath and warranty on the RC5 are also better.

Both are very stout knives. I believe the current Ka-Bar made Beckers use/have Cro-Van 1095 & should fare well against the current RC knives (Made by Rowen, IIRC). I say that never minding the scales & price.

Now, if I had a choice, I'd go for a Camillus made Becker as I felt the their steel seemed to be slightly better, edge holding wise. However, a good heat treated 1095 steel really is hard to beat.
