Got my BK2 monday
Lowbuck sheath mod wednesday

Stripped it yesterday

Patina'd today

did a white vinagar soak for an hour or 2, and then went to do some mustard stripes, but, out of mustard...
didnt have any oranges or grapefruit around, but did have some 10% glycolic acid (used for facial peels).

what the heck, gave it a try...

wrapped in a paper towel and sprayed it down with the glycolic, and let it sit for about 1/2 hour

came out pretty nice, but as usual, pics cant really pick up the contrast in color :D

Edit: this turned out to be too thin of a patina, came off way too easy, not long enough in the vinegar, or the glycolic undid the vinegar patina, either way.... crap.
will be re-doing

You've been busy. That came out really nice. I'll have to look that sheath mod up. Looks good.

Where to you get that acid? I've been debating on whether or not to keep my '2 shiny, patina it, or just get another one.

thanks for the comments guys, will have to see how this wears.
it seems like the glycolic was removing the vinegar patina, a couple draws from the sheath has started to remove the finish

*DONT BOTHER TRYING THIS FINISH until i use it a bit*

i was thinking acid is acid, and just gave it a try, but a little reading on the web shows this stuff is used to remove deposits in boilers and such
great metal cleaner, but we'll see

worst thing that could happen is i start over......

Whats wrong with black:eek:

absolutely nothing wrong with black

but wearing an all black big knife in a black kydex sheath in public in orange county ca.... draws the wrong kind of attention, ya know??
next steps here are plain micarta scales and a leather sheath

haha dont think it matters whether she's stripped or not in OC. wouldn't consider it an urban edc

good point, and of course not edc, but i do wear a knife in public when i ride, and when working weekend side job.
but you know what i mean, tactical looking knives, even when camping, makes people weird here....

i got you, that makes sense brother. yeah people look at you like you have two heads even out here on the appalachian trail, like what do you need a big knife for in the middle of the woods.

Kind of like how you can't find Bronkaid in a drug store anymore....Everyone is hip to the Bronkaid/Caffiene combo that is like the old skool Xenedrine. I feel sorry for people with lung issues that actually need it... ( I admit...I don't have lung problems either)

dinner break
needs cleanup with smaller file, and a little engraving
