My first try for a patina on my BK2 was with white vinegar. Came out with a gray finish which was ok but not very consistent.

This time I used apple cider vinegar, nice black consistent finish this time.

 Looks good!

The thing with a patina is that they are constantly changing with use!

Would you mind posting close ups of the before and afters? Maybe attach it so I can blow them up? I really like the looks of the black. Also would you detail what prep you did before the first attempt and between the first and second?
Really appreciate it. Nice job!

Don't have any before pics. All I really did before the first try was strip off the coating, lightly sand the blade and soak it in white vinegar. Wasn't really happy with the gray so after awhile I used a bench grinder with a polishing wheel to get it back to bare steel and soaked it again overnight in apple cider vinegar. Took it out and rinsed off the vinegar. Put a coating of mineral oil on it and let it sit a couple of days before lightly wiping it down.
