Got my 1st Becker the BK2, saw a few videos that say the plastic sheath dulls the blade. Is this true before I purchase a kydex or leather replacement sheath.

Nope, not anymore.

For a while the plastic was fiberglass reenforced. This made the sheath stronger, but the fiberglass fibers were hard, and could cause edge problems.

When I ordered my first BK2, it had a broken snap on the sheath. I contacted support, and they sent me a new one. That new one was labeled on the invoice as "BK2 Sheath: NO GLASS".

As far as I know they've been non-fiberglass re-enforced since then (2010-2011 IIRC).

And check out some of the sheath mods that have been done using the stock BK2 sheath as a starting point. That might give you some ideas for how you want to carry it.

Enjoy the new steel :D.

Congrats on the new steel!

And welcome to the forums! Pull up a log and sit a spell.

Welcome to the forums! To answer your question, I wouldn't think it would

If it's the same guy that I'm thinking of on YouTube, he's an idiot.
He unsheaths his knife like a moron.
Doesn't matter what the sheath was made from...he'd have a dull knife regardless.
People like him are knife companies worst nightmare.
I guarantee if I unsheathed a knife like that from any of my kydex sheaths I'd have a dull knife too!
The factory sheath is just fine (and always was) as long as you dont drag the edge while unsheathing.
I think the BK2 factory sheath is a great design.

By the way, welcome to BK&T!
Congrats on your new BK2. You're gonna love it!

The stamped blades had the fiberglass sheaths, right?

I filed down the one I have (got it from the Exchange) so I don't think I'll have any issues. Just curious as to when they went away from the harder fiberglass.

As I said in my first post, I got a glass free replacement sheath in 2011, for my roll stamped model. I have no way of knowing if the sheath that CAME with the knife was "glass free", but it was confirmed by moose and other mods that they'd started shipping sometime around the middle of summer with the glassless version.

EDIT: Found the thread I made about it.

So that puts it solidly in roll stamped production years, as I think the laser engraving didn't hit until the tweeners hit... in what... 2013? 2014?

End story, I don't think it being roll stamped is a good indicator of the type of sheath it has, since it appears it was changed mid-cycle.

Hey skill seeker. Welcome bro. Hope you have some fun here mate. We do. As for your sheath, check this out. This is how I got hooked in here and I wasn't the only one to be snagged by Warriors masterpiece. By the way, I accept no responsibility for any addiction that may arise from viewing attached thread. But The Warrior (Dubz) does..

The only reason you beat me to it, is because I couldn't remember the guy's name.
