BK2 Sheath Dulling the Edge?

Just added a BK2 to my collection of Beckers (2x7s, 1x9, 1x10, 1xMagnum Camp). I am convinced the molded kydex-like sheath is dulling the blade about 2 inches up from the choil and 2 inches down from the tip...right there at the belly to where it straightens out. Just one insertion and removal is knocking my edge right off. Fortunately I have a nice leather sheath for it. I am not much thrilled with the original sheath. The belt loop is exceedingly flimsy and I think they missed a boat there my not making it molle compatible. But the plastic thing is certainly nice enough and I'd like the option to use it.

Anybody else experiencing this? Here's the sheath I have it in now. Pic was taken with an ESEE 5 but the becker fits perfectly.

How old is the knife and sheath? IIRC, the composition of the sheaths was changed a couple of years ago to address that issue.

I can say that the knife is the current one with the textured finish and the etched logo instead of the stamped rollmark. The sheath seems modern enough. I am not going to use it anyway or at least until I've worn enough edge off the thing that it no longer matters!!!

I would contact Kabar and ask them if they would ship you a new sheath for it. When you fix the belt loop it really is a nice sheath.

tobiism, what is "the fix" for the belt loop?

Remove the stock loop from the sheath, get yourself a nice big piece of shoe leather, fold it in half drill three holes in the end and bolt them to the sheath. Boom, done. That is the cheap way to do it, but you can also find one on ebay premade with a fire steel loop for around $40.

Back about 4 years ago they used glass reinforced nylon for the sheaths, and this was a semi-common complaint.

I got a BK2 with a sheath who's buttons were broken, and when I contacted them they sent me a new replacement sheath that said "NO GLASS" on the invoice. So since then as far as I know all have been "glassless". What you're describing sounds more like perhaps its not quite correctly sized? I'd contact Kabar and see what they say, can't hurt any :).

And another fix for the belt loop is just to sew up something like an old library card/drivers license/etc inside the stock loop. That firms it up quite a bit. I have a thread on it, but checking back it appears the imageshack has broken all of my images by marking my account "abandoned" (since I didn't pay for what used to be free). Perhaps later I'll get the photos up on another hosting service... but that will take some time.

Well the OP only said its modern looking, didn't state if its brand new or not. My guess is that its an older version of the latest model. I'm not sure Ka-Bar would or should do anything. Unless you're saying that I can buy a previously purchased, second hand, new in box Knife and get a free updated sheath...I'm not sure if that's good business but its helluva customer service!

Consider it more like a factory recall. The company obviously realized there was a problem and changed the sheaths to suit. Regardless of who the purchaser is or if it has changed hands or not the product is still faulty and causes undue wear and tear to the knife.

It is a brand new knife and sheath. Not a mark on any of it.

I did! I made this one. No need for ordering anything[emoji106]

Nice [emoji106] the factory sheath was notorious for dulling the edge, but supposedly was fixed. I have the older one and it drove me crazy when I'd spend the time sharpening it and after inserting it into the sheath one time my time was wasted. Ive just been using the bk22 condura sheath, but finally just ordered some 710 goodness for it.
