Moose was able to sell me on two things. Tarp hats and BK2s. Already got the hat, now Im waiting on the knife. My question is will it fit in a Specops combat master sheath?

Any chance the bk9 fits in the long version? Longer blade length that what their site says it goes up to, though I can always hope it does.

Thought the bk2 was a little tight in these sheaths though.

Hey Machine... according to the SpecOps website, "Short fits blades up to 6” Long x 1.75” Wide x 0.25” Thick", so yeah there should be no trouble fitting the BK2...AND I think tarp hats are wicked. I like the rugged, used look they have!

Doubtful. IIRC, the Long will take up to an 8" blade, right? Certain versions of the Bk-7 came with a Spec-Ops sheath, like the BK-77 Extreme (in S30V) and the BK-7SG (serrated). My wife carries in her pack a BK-7 in a Combat Master. All these cases involve pretty good fits in the Long version of the sheath. A BK-9 would just be too much, I think.

As for fit, you can heat the plastic insert (boiling it, for instance) and shape it to a given knife. I've seen some pretty insane stretches like a Busse Heavy Heart fit into the Long version. That's a thick, wide knife in case you don't know. You just have to be careful not to overheat. In the Busse forum, there are threads that detail how to stretch the liner to fit.

If you want a sheath similar to a Combat Master for a longer blade, have a look at Lost Mountain Iron Works. They offer a Footlong model for up to 11" blades and a .... wait for it ... John Holmes (seriously) version for up to 12" blades.

My main reason for liking the spec-ops sheath is the dual loop drop loop, lots of loops?, feature. I always have a hard time getting the sheath to sit in a good spot since my belt loops get in the way. Just need more knives, that or modify the sheath I have.

The Lost Mountains have the same dual loop set-up, but they are positioned lower.

Hey, I just noticed this blurb on the What's New section over there at Lost Mountain.

Busy, busy, busy! The support has been incredible! Thanks for all the emails and calls. The feedback we have received on the new prototype has really helped us refine the design and we think improve the product. The design is for an 8 inch blade (7-8.5 inch) we are calling “The Johnson”. A single exterior pocket of 6 inches in length provides storage not found on any other comparable sheath. Our own “Hill-spec” back provides: Drop leg carry, Waist Belt carry, or a MOLLE rack depending on your means of transport. Based on the popular Footlong design the Johnson is just the next step down in size which will eventually help fill out our entire line. Pictures coming soon.

Apparently, they really like their penis references. :D

ETA: I can't speak to quality personally, but I got in on a Busse Special Offer a while back, and the folks who've received those sheaths so far have seemed very pleased with them. Mine should ship in the not-too-distant future, and I'll be happy to chime in what I think of them.

Lol, seems they do like that. I guess I could always make/buy a drop loop dealio. Good to know they are making the 8in one, though who knows if the BK9 will fit. Their products seem to be very good quality, from the pics anyway. Thanks for the info.

If you have any problems with the fit, they (the company - www.specopsbrand.com) are very good to work with. The factory liner comes with a slight curve to promote retention (which isn't a problem for the BK-2), but if you need one that is completely straight, they will help you get one. The VP emailed me back, and they are sending a straight replacement liner to me at no charge. I am very impressed with their customer service.
