I love these types of threads. After a little bit of headache the BK10 finally arrived and she is a beauty. Im just not sure if I can make myself use her. I have my BK2 which I love and I dont know if I see a real advantage that the BK10 would have over my BK2. What do you guys think?

Use it!!!!

That's all I've got :D

Wait!

Use it; take pix of you using it; then enter those pix into clich's contest for a leather sheath made my that totally awesome sheath maker. What was his name again.......:D

That's why I have 2x2s and 2x10s ;)

I say use it. The two advantages I see the 10 has over the 2 would be its lighter in weight and thinner blade making ride somewhat better then the BK2 when you vertical carry on the belt. BK2 will be a better splitter but the 10 does a good job as well.

I think the BK10 is lighter, faster and slices better IMO, but the BK2 chops, battons and does a little of everything well.

I like both and would not get rid of either......

Its lighter and will be used more for my normal trips and camp chores since i carry the 9 too and the 9 can do all the heavy lifting while it does the small stuff. If i feel like really doing a one blade thing then its the 2 but i do love the crewman very very very much

I say put it away.

Here are my thoughts, it is a special run knife. It's a 1 time only deal. I think that slicing performance-wise the BH-10 isn't up to par with the original BK-10. I say this b/c the grind isn't nearly as high as the original. It is known that Ethan likes the high grinds for his knives. Why did kabar change the grind? I think it's because of the limited number, and that if a knife is broken it's irreplacable. They know that lots of BH's will be using them hard, and it wouldn't be good to have them breaking.
It think there will be a re-release of the 10, and if you can wait to get a user until then. But, if you are just going to strap it to your vest and only use it for "special occasions" i'd say go for it.

I like the thiner blade of the BK10. I like my knives like I like my woman. Thin , sharp & a little hard to get.
Now Ka-Bar has a few BK-10's so their not so hard to get, Whores
Use it Beckers don't make good safe queens.

If your primary appreciation is for the knives aesthetics, shelve it. If the primary reason for ownership is for use, use it. Nothing wrong with either reason for ownership.

I prefer my 2 for an end all knife. Numero Uno, and until I find something that will out perform it, it will always be Numero Uno. So far, nothing has.

The BK10 has been riding with me the last couple of weeks in my bag, doing some various thing. Nothing heavy, this will most likely be this weekend. It works, and works well. It light enought that I was gonna leave my BK2 at home this weekend, and thought about a 1 knife weekend out on the river.

I was having a hard time doing that, just so's ya'll know.

But alas, due to changes in the world, my trip has been postponed, and my heavy lifting might just be cut back to some light bushcrafting. Which, I think the BK10 is better at than the BK2. Its lighter weight doesn't fatigue my hand as quickly, the clip point is perfect for divots, and boring. Throw in a good size blade most tasks, and you gotta bushier craftier knife. It doesn't even come close to chopping like the BK2, and can't take as much lateral force as the BK2, steel physics says so, I haven't broken either one, don't think I ever will.

I took the chickenshit road, I got one for using and one put up, for later generations to enjoy. I don't think my user BK10 will be gone, but I bet BOTH my daughters are gonna want one. So, one gets "Dad's" the other gets new. I'm sure they will fight over it, and yes, they will spill blood. Nothing serious, but it will be fierce for a moment or two.

I generally do that for all their knives, but I've noticed, they are gonna decide for themselves which one they like better.

I say you will have to decide what to do with it, mon frere, they are your knives. I like to use, but we are talking one of 180, which has now been changed, since we modders got them, so, safe guess, I would say one of 170. Never to be seen again, Camillus steel, Kabar manufacture, Ethan's Design, and a Beckerhead exclusive release. Only 180 or less ever existed. yar.

Food for thought.

The first and probably obvious advantage is that the BK10 is much lighter. For day trips and backpacking trips where you're not expecting your knife to do much heavy lifting, the BK2 is a major investment in unnecessary weight. I know because I've taken the 2 on trips where all I needed was a necker. The 10 is more nimble for things like food prep, feather sticks, carving spoons, etc.

For camping or backpacking where you're building stuff, cutting a lot of wood, etc then the BK2 is way better. Splits better due to the thickness, batons better because it has more flat surface area (no swedge or ramp), and chops better due to it's weight (although you could argue that the BK10 is thinner and therefore bites deeper. not sure about this yet.).

So you've got to sit back and look at what your outdoors activities are. I love my BK2 but the reality is that it's probably not going to be my pack much because I don't do much with wood when I'm out and about.

For utility use, the weight becomes less important because it's less likely to be something you're hauling for long periods of time. At that point the BK10, while still a really sturdy tool with great design features like the handle and pommel, can't compare to the brutish and indestructible BK2. So say you need to punch holes in your old rusty lawnmower; we know the BK2 is great at this.

Here's thing though; these two knives have completely different core uses. The BK2 is a camping knife, the BK10 is a combat knife. Sure you can use the 10 for camping and backpacking stuff, but that's just not it's basic design. The ramp anchors the knife to your hand, then you slash or stab (the swedge improves the wounding capability). Now, of course people use the 10-7-9 for outdoorsy stuff and they're all the same design, so you can do whatever you want. But do you want a repurposed fighting knife to cut sticks with? Do you want a repurposed camp knife for use on recalcitrant tangos?

What do you want? Make up your damn mind already!

I would prefer to use my 2. No real fear of breaking it in the field. I am a believer that you can break a anvil before you break the 2.

I just got my 10 and really have not had the chance to use it much. I like that it is longer. Better for chopping. But if I am might as well grab my 9.

I think in the end they all have their strong points.

Bk2..... I'm not sure what the purpose of the Bk10 is, I'm assuming it's more of a "fighter" type of knife.

I'm with BRL here, they're not intended for the same purpose. It's well known that I'm a 10-aholic and tend to treat my 2knife as a splitting maul in kydex. I like the 10 and just like Moose, I got two. One for the safe and daughter down the road and one for me to spill blood with.

I love my 2. Wasn't able to get a 10 though. But I do know the 10 could handle whatever you'd be able to put it through, just by whose name is on the side.

Im in a simular thought process. I have a 2, 7 and 9. Not sure where the 10 will fit in really. But she suuuuure is pretty and Im happy to have her.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong. I am stoked to have the 10. I wanna give it a good using at least once and then maybe use it for lil work. I really don't want to risk doing damage to it. Then I would really kick myself in the a** being it is a limited issue.

Sorry I don't have the cash to buy 2 10s

I like the BK2 better.
It's your knife, use it or safe queen it.
Either way it should last a lifetime.
