I just noticed a small nick in my blade all I have been doing it chopping
wood .is this commen

Hmm. Chopping wood with a knife = small knick, yes.

It happens with all kinds of edged tools. This is one of the reasons why I use batoning for the most part. It's a lot less stressful on the edge plus you get more accurate cuts.

Yah, wood can hide all sorts of things inside it. Nails, bullets, glass, sand, rocks, wire, thick knots, and so on... Even processed woods like particle board and lumber can have shards of metal or other fragments in them. If its just a small "nick" its no big deal, it happens, and can happen with any edged tool. Sharpen it out and keep on keeping on. If you are that concerned with it post up some pictures for us to see :) I recently had a ding in my BK2 when it came in contact with a rock, my fault, Sharpened out easy!

I think some of the problem with chopping too is inaccuracy and also a bit of hand wobble. I believe both induce lateral stress on the edge which can cause issues but that's just my opinion. I don't have any data to back that up.

Just caused by inclusions or hard knots. No worries. I wouldn't even bother sharpening it out. Just use it and sharpen as normal. It will eventually correct itself, and you will get all that extra life out of the blade. No sense in grinding away at one spot that will eventually self repair. If you do that with every little nick and ding you will quickly wind up with a toothpick blade.
