BK24 is it real ?

It's as real as anything that you know exists but haven't actually seen in person or put your hand on. Kinda like Halle Berry or Scarlett Johansson. :D

I've seen and handled some.
but the official announcement was just a couple of days ago, so it'll take a bit for them to hit the shelves.

Wow I'm off the site for a few days and i'm way behind the curve here! What's D2? This new 24 is a 14 in a different steel? What's D2 I guess is my question. Thanks!

From the Benchmade site:
"D2: An air-hardened tool steel, which offers good corrosion resistance and excellent mileage in wear resistance. A good choice for hard use applications."

From Joe Talmadge's steel FAQ:
"D2 is sometimes called a "semi-stainless". It has a fairly high chrome content (12%), but not high enough to classify it as stainless. It is more stain resistant than the carbon steels mentioned above, however. It has excellent wear resistance. D2 is much tougher than the premium stainless steels like ATS-34, but not as tough as many of the other non-stainless steels mentioned here. The combination of great wear resistance, almost-stainlessness, and good toughness make it a great choice for a number of knife styles. Bob Dozier is one maker who uses D2."

Thanks for the info Guyon, I've been looking at either a BK11 or BK14, so this probably klinches it as I prefer uncoated blades generally speaking.
