This May, Little Sis, Dad and I traveled to South Africa with friends for a 10 day safari. Though a lot of photos were taken only a few (most of which I cant yet find) Had Becker content. I was limited to 50 LBS each in a checked bag and a Rifle case, so the only choice was to pack the BK24. After all The D2 dulls slowly and I wasn't taking any sharpening gear.
We hit the ground running the first morning with dad taking a nice Waterbuck and me an Impala.

Day2 Started with Sis taking a zebra. The plan was for Dad to shoot one and Sara (sis) to take the hide for a rug. She is not a hunter but grew up in a hunting family so its in her DNA and that Gene came to life after a day in Africa.

Becker content

In the afternoon I took a Blue Wildbeast.

That's all for day 2

Day 3 and 4 were spent chasing down a Gemsbuck

after 12 miles afoot I finally connected with a nice bull

And some Becker content

The night of Day 3 we gave it a break and went out after a Wildbeast for dad. After a long ride and short stalk he closed the deal.

The rest of the fourth day, Dad spent some time waiting by the truck while the PH and I beat the bush

late the second day of the Gemsbok hunt Dad decided that an Impala would look nice on the wall

We took a day off to play at the range and sample some of the local beer a scotch and shoot some Guinea fowl. The action was too fast for pictures.
That about wraps up the first 5 days

Day 6&7 were spent at another concession, with some of the group going after Bush Pig and Bush Buck in the mornings and evenings. Neither were taken, they are hard hunts and the game is wiley. Mid day on the 7th a few of us headed up into the nearby mountains to try for Spring Buck and Black Wildebeest.

They are out there. Somewhere!

Maybe down there

Yep that's where he was. Fortunately for us, we were able to drive right to him for the recovery

And a springbok

This was a big day with lots of miles on the boots. I still have swelling in my knee from an unfortunate meeting with a rock while crawling over a hill.

Were not done yet. Dad decided that a Blesbok was in order. We were winding down so we didn't have to push so hard and had time to get some better photos. Maybe Sara was starting to figure out her new camera.

And The Hero Shot

This is an old buck and a nice trophy
Later in the day, the outfitter offered up some Cull's. He has too many blesbok on his property and with the drought conditions there is not enough grasses to sustain the herd. Of course we were happy to help out.

That wraps up the Hunting part of the trip. We drove 6 hours north to Kruger National Park for a sightseeing tour, that yielded another 2000 pictures. Stay tuned for lots of critters.

Stand by, I'm still sorting it all out. 25 mammals spotted countless birds and a few reptiles including crocodile

Wooly Bully!!
It looks like you had one heck of a safari!!
:D
There is a local business tycoon whose trophy room I was privileged to visit back in the late 80's. He had just about every large and medium/large game animal I could imagine from several continents. Elephants, rhinos, bears, buffalo, all the big cats....pretty amazing stuff.

Me, I just fish, but given the chance....

someone made waves. waves are gone. please, frolic :D

Trip of a lifetime, I'd bet. Pictures are awesome. I didn't grow up in a hunting family (fishing, yes....) and am working my way up to bowhunting deer this season for the first time at 53. Great to see a family trip where everyone is smiling (at least in the photos ;))! Thanks for bringing us (vicariously) on your adventure.

I'd like to hear about that rifle.

Nothing special. A Savage model 11 Hog Hunter 308. Toped with a Vortex viper long range. It shoots Hornady SuperFormance very well and hammers game.
I hated the olive color stock so I Rattle canned some quick camo.

I better get the rest of the pics up here since this post has come to life again.

Cool. When I saw the threaded barrel I thought it might be a Savage HH or a similar model. I've been thinking about one of their scout rifles.
