BK3? or not?

I'm considering getting a BK3. I do some construction work, some handyman work and have the potential to be doing some residential demolition. I know some people here will recommend getting it because it's a another knife to add to my collection, but is it worth it to have one? I've seen several here but they all look new. Does anybody use their BK3? I've seen the pictures here about the BK3 being used to demo a car but how does it work on a house?

Thanks

I'd say there's much better tools for demoing a house or vehicle then the BK3. I think the BK3 is more of a handy tool to have in an emergency situation but not when you are going into a situation knowing exactly what you are facing.

I have an unused BK3 - I got it for the truck emergency bag and haven't had any emergencies that needed it yet.
OTOH, for demo work, what you really want is a Stanley FUBAR and/or FUBAR III

Agreed with above - I think the BK3 is a very capable knife that can be used for demo work, but would not be a first choice - especially for work when you want to get stuff done fast.

I think it's a great tool to have with you just in case you need to do some breaching / breaking unexpectedly.

How many crowbars or wrecking bars can you wear in a sheath on you hip & carry while you do other things as well ? It is definately not the best choice, but is a good choice none the less.

+1 for fubar...those things were made to destroy. I would recommend pairing the fubar with a sledgehammer and you will be ready to demo most anything.
But....get the BK3 anyways, because you never know :D

Yeah get it, but also take a Fubar, or similar demo hammer. The Dead On demolition hammer is similar, but heavier. The drywall blade on that hammer is not sharp, but tough and is meant to be used all day. And, with both those hammers you can grab the studs and twist.
I think you would simply dull the BK3 cutting through drywall all day.

I scored a BK-3 a while back for my BOB and it makes me happy to know it's in there and ready for whatever might come up. As for day to day use, why not give it a shot? Worst case scenario, you don't like it I bet you could flip that sucker right smartly on the board here. That Fubar sure does look nasty, though.

Actually, I guess the worst case scenario would be if the knife was somehow irradiated and covered in the bubonic plague and then it exploded and zombies came out of it, but I hear that they screen those knives out at the factory now.

they make great tools for "fine" work... like removing windows, and appliances and such. you can baton it THROUGH things, which is fairly unique for prybars :)

but for large scale demo? get the FuBar III, oh yeah. it's my goto too for wrecking walls, and zombies:

mmm

Thanks for the advise. I've got pry bars, hammers and lots of the "standard" type of construction tools. I was just wondering if this was something worth adding to my tool belt.

Go for it man. chisel, and serrations are on the right side of the blade too. Which is too often overlooked.
