So I'm wandering through the Gun&Knife Show this weekend and I come across a knife dealer that's got several KaBars laid out, mostly fighters and machetes.

But at the back, he has a few Beckers - 4,5,16,17. Not having held a 4 before, I ask if it's okay to handle them, "sure". He's got others asking questions so he goes to help them.

I paying more attention to the 4 but, since I already have a 5, I'm also comparing them side-by-side. While I was doing so, he comes back and says ...

Him: That's the BK4 in your left, the BK5 in your right. And they're $120.
Me: Really? $120 for both? (my wallet cringes)
Him: No. $120 each.
Me: Each?! (my wallet relaxes)
Him: Yeah, they're RARE, they've been discontinued.
Me: ORLY? Didn't know that. Thought they were just on sale.
Him: They are on sale. $120.
Me: Oh. Okay.

So I fondled the 4 awhile longer, laid it down, thanked him, and wandered off.

Hahaha... oh man...
Hahahahahahaha
I love going to gun and knife shows, and there are some great people there. It is just sad that it seems like a majority of them are slimy.

Kinda like when I come to a vendor selling a brick of 22 for $100. Just laugh and walk away, and make sure none of your friends buy anything from them.

Slimey is right. Had a goofy dealer wearing an Elmer Fudd hat trying to sell me a beat to hell S&W "lemon Squeezer" for daily carry. Damned thing was probably 90 years old! Anyway, the cylinder spun freely at all times and he tried to say it was a special feature added for the Secret Service so they could spin to a different chamber at a minutes notice to use a special bullet:D

"what's rare sir is your sense of style and humor, have a good day!"

i should imagine you'll able to buy a new in box BK anything made by KaBar for YEARS and YEARS to come...

though it's true apparently the BK5 is not as loved as it should be, so i would buy one of those (or two) to set aside, you'll probably be able to buy that for "long time"

BK4? that's got a good chance of being around forever :D if not longer.

now, if you had seen a BK1 Brute, or a BK6, or a BK8, or ...

I was at that same show and saw the same table yesterday! At the point I was there he only had the 4, 5 and a 15 left. He wanted 75 for the 15, which I would have snagged (considering ordering online and shipping it would have been an ok price)I asked how much for the 4, he said 100. I didn't ask why, and he didn't tell me they were "rare" but he did not appreciate that I laughed at him when he said 100. A laugh like, "you're an idiot." At that point some other guy came up and asked about some cheap assed 5 dollar POS. I put the 4 down and walked away. The next booth down is where I bought my PM2. LOL

I would have politely let him know how 'rare' they are right now. You know, so he wouldn't unintentionally mislead anyone. ;)
He can price them for $1000.00 each if he wants, but he shouldn't misrepresent his products.
I remember one older gentleman at a gunshow showing me a Beretta he was selling as new. I asked about the rust spots on it (even though he told me stainless steel didn't rust.)

Since Dex was brought up, I thought I'd pop in and thank him for some great service I received from him a couple of weeks ago. I ordered 2 BK-4 (one for my buddy, Phil and the other a spare for me  . If it wasn't for Canadian Customs I would have had the knives in 3 days!! From Texas to Ontario, Canada! Doesn't get much better than that. Also a pleasure dealing with him regarding some questions I had. 100% recommendation from me!

BTW, I'm not really complaining about how long Customs took. They are usually pretty quick. I think they are starting to hit Christmas mail.

Doc

Don't you just love shows? I just laugh. The same kinds of things go on with guns, ammo, and so forth.
