I like the idea of the Bk4 but I am unsure about it due to its shape.
What are some of the pros and cons of the bk4 ?
It will be used like my bk9 camp site prep and trail clearing and anything else of that nature.

I also have a 9 and am hesitant to get a 4, all to say I don't have a 4 and never held one either. In the end I feel it will perform similar to the 9 but much harder for me personally to sharpen, I'll pass on it for now.

Ive had a 9 and love the 4 even more! It sharpens easily with a diamond rod sharpener, makes a great draw knife and is much smaller/handier than it seems :) And they can be bought for a song from a bidding site that shall not be named :D

It sharpens easily enough with a Norton bench stone. It has a sweet spot that chops perfectly, however the 9 chops perfectly with no sweet spot. I love my BK4's, they're unique and do many things well.

+1 On the draw knife aspect, Grasp the handle with one hand, Place the heel of your other hand on the swell at the tip and draw it to you. Makes all kinds of stuff.

I have a 4 and a 9. I use the 4 in the woods much more. I use the 9 for big chores in the kitchen, like chopping through squash, melons, or cutting big cuts of meat.

I prefer to carry the 4 because it's smaller than the 9, yet when I'm in the woods it does everything just about as well as the 9, but it's lighter.

I prefer the 9, but I really like the 4 as well. the 2, 9, and 4 are the only beckers I have doubles of. THey're all good in their own way

How long have you been around here?

IIRC, in 1985, a certain person with the initials EB decided that what he wanted in a knife wasn't available, so he took a British MOD knife, scribbled on it with a soapstone or someting similar, and removed all the metal bits outside the lines. He then reshaped the handle and contoured it so it fit his hand and deemed it a fit companion for camp duties -- hence the inaugural prototype Campanion.

You're forgetting about this one.

I don't mean to be the turd in the punchbowl here, but I have tried and tried to like 4 and just can't do it. The 9 is my knife as far as Beckers go. The 4 is so unique and looks awesome, but I just can't get used to swinging one.
