I won a BK4 in this contest. Got the prize in a few days ago, but my camera batteries were dead, so I took a few tonight. This was the winning chop Ethan chose:

This one was the one I favored. A lot of work went into this:

This contest was right up my alley. I normally don't enter contests that have a prize I already possess, but since the 4 is being discontinued, a back up plan never hurts.

Thanks again Guyon, very much appreciated.

Dubz, you truly deserved to win that 4 for sure! Both of those entries were seriously cool but the effort that went into the second one is un bloody real! Noice work bruvva.. The only comps I enter are the ones that require me to say "I'm in. Thanks for the chance". Pathetic, I know..

ETA: The animation of the woman's eyes cracks me up! Not sure whether she's impressed or $#!++ing herself!

Nice work man :).

Did you do the Paul Bunyan photo in gimp as well? It looks somewhat like you bit-mapped/vectorized ethans face (which I just recently started doing in inkscape), or perhaps you just used a filter on it? Its hard to tell on my phone.

EDIT: Looking closer I have a guess how you did it .

Looks great either way :).

Congrats!!!
As a new convert to the greatness that is the Machaxe, of course mine is a Mackaxe, I understand the desire to own many of them.
Great chops!!!

Thanks man. The woman's eyes took a little time to do. When I enlarged them, of course I lost detail, and had to hand paint the highlights in with an airbrush in GIMP.

I didn't make the Paul Bunyan art. Google imaged it. Manipulated it from there. Ethan's head was cut out from a real photo, then I used a filter in G'MIC to cartoonize it similar to the original art.

Congrats, that's a good one. :D

I was a bit unclear i guess, I didn't think you created the original image, but rather edited it it to produce the "Ethanized" version. And yep, the cartoon filter was what I was suspecting :). The images lined up well. I've done some work like this in the past for other things, and the trick is finding images where the peoples faces are all in similar orientations/lighting. So nice work again :).

Gotcha. I think the filter was actually a water color filter. The result was closer than using the cartoon filter. You're right, finding the right photo is key. Yes, you can flip it, rotate it, etc, but the lighting is another thing.

Here's the whole sequence in an animation. Well, not all the steps, but most of them. Loses quality in an animation.

1. Started with a stock "photo".
2. Cloned out the axe, and added the BK4, cartoonized it, and shadow to match it.
3. Added Ethan's head, a hat shadow, and the BK&T logo to the shirt.
4. Cartooned Ethan's head.
5. Added the BK11 necker, in the correct orientation as Ethan actually wears it.
6. Contoured the BK&T logo to match the chest curve better.
7. Cloned out the ox head, and added the dog head, and colorized it blue, to match the ox body. Also airbrushed highlights on the dogs head.
8. Cartooned, and sharpened the dog's head up a bit.
9. Added logo and signature.
10. Changed the orientation of the dog's head. Much better.
11. Fixed the mountain under the dog head. Also blended the neck in a bit.
12. Cartooned the dog's head even more.
13. Finally, added the KA-BAR logo in the clouds, birds, and shadows.

By the way, if you put your cursor over the animation, it will start back at the beginning.
