I know it would do an ok job, but does anyone have thoughts on how a BK5 would perform as a standard kitchen knife?

It'd work, but I like having a proper chief's knife for veggies. For meat though the 5 would be awesome!! IMO

As a kitchen knife it rocks, literaly and figuratively. When it's -30 and a howling blizzard, this Becker still gets constant use indoors. It's a hell of a knife.

THAR' BE TO MANY THREADS ON THIS!!!!

The answer: YES FOR THE LAST TIME!!!!

Can this thread be closed please?

It's probably a little too thick for general kitchen work, but its huge sweeping belly of a blade would make it perform just as well as any kitchen knife for slicing, dicing, and chopping.

I'm waiting for the Becker/ESEE collaborations.
That said, I've used my 5's in the kitchen quite a bit.

Oh yeah, here it is after Jerry Fisk sharpened it. I cut up this small roast, which I then marinated for about 4 days and used to make tacos.

I used the passaround BK5 in the kitchen and it worked pretty damn good IMO.

It reminds me of a mean butcher knife............

one of my BK5s always lives in the kitchen. works great.

no probably about it. everyone who's used one, or has one, says so.

i can't think of anyone that has said it's no good in the kitchen and means it. they'd be liars ;)

go, search the 120 recent BK5 threads before and after the gathering.

it slices, it dices, it makes Julien fries, and it can basically do it all.

probably even kill a bear :)

ok jerry fisk didnt sharpen my per say, but he did show me via a video HOW to sharpen it, and as far as a kitchen knife what else do you need? a knife thats sharp, slices food into lil bitty pieces, then you cook them. Well how about a knife that slices your onions SO thin that you can see glare through it?

I used mine when it came time to carve some pumpkins this year :)

I used a Ka-Bar Grass Machete.

I've heard Ethan say in several interviews that it makes a decent kitchen knife. I would assume the soon to be released tweener version of it would be even better.

Dunno bud, she's a bit small for that i'd think. I put my left palm near the end top of the Mag Camp then use that point as a pivot on the upcurve to rock the blade up\down and across veggies. Dices like a laser. The Tweener version may not be big enough for that, but hey, you never know until in hand. It would be one hell of a manly meat knife though at the supper table, or in camp.

oh, absolutely it makes a GREAT frakking steak knife. i know. i beta tested a ribeye with one :>

What IS the rationale or design use of each Tweener ? The mini 2 drop point is apparent and seems like the most useful all rounder to me. The mini mag is the slicer of the trio ? What about the third clip point, aesthetic preferences or utilitarian design ?
