It took me a long time to warm up to the 5. Had a little bit of a design difference than the others, and I know the blade was not designed by THE MAN. However, I felt the shape of the blade was similar to a wicked combat knife and some of my fav kitchen blades, and had a certain EFF U! sort of macho to it. So I bought one and I cant go a day without using it in the kitchen or imagining fending off a zombie attack (of course with my winchester super x2 tactical close by). I used a triangle file and cut some crisscross lines in the handle and sanded it gently with 100 grit, and thats my 5. Love it. I love the boattail spine that allows for some quick ass moves too.
Do you hate yours or love yours? What do you use it for mostly? ( just looking at it lovingly is as valid as any other answer ).

I'm diggin on mine pretty good, its pulling KP duty right now. I got some things planned with it in the future, but yeah, you are right, it is a fast blade in the hands. Very well balanced. I Put micarta on mine, and that really lets the blade sail, for sure.

Love it, course, I love all my BKT knives.

Pics or it didn't happen.

When the BK5 came out, I wasn't impressed. When I got a hold of one for the pass around, I was whatever about it. These past three or four weeks I have been dreaming about it. It will be my next BK&T purchase, but will likely come after the Mark 1.

Hmmm, interesting thread. I guess that I originally got into Becker's because I respected the inherent TOUGHNESS of the knives. They were big, brutally utilitarian, and no nonsense. That's why I bought a Brute years ago and came back later for more. The only two Becker's that I felt initial disappointment with were the 2nd generation BK-2 and the BK-5. I was choked right off that the 2 had cut outs and the 5's blade stock was so thin. I have since come to love the 2, cut outs and all. Yes the 5 is a different duck, but I can also enjoy it immensely for its attributes, which are many. Thing is that these are probably the two Becker's that I reach for most now, which shows how initial opinions can change. I also felt initially that the Eskabar necker was too small in hand, and it still is a bit. But it's a freakin neck knife so I clued in and I really like it also, a lot. Jeez, maybe Ethan knows a thing or two........................ that I still need to learn.

I can't wait to get a BK5. I really like finger choils. They really seem to better balance a blade heavy knife. I also like options & you can have both with that one. What a BK5 REALLY is, is a TRICK, to have in the kitchen & get the wifes to love it, THEN, they won't have an issues when some hubby's want to buy MORE BK&T products. Ethan is a wise man indeed !!! LOL :D

twinstick- i know what you mean. to the wife: " let me wave this knife back and forth in front of you......now that you are getting sleepy, how do you feel about letting me buy another knife?.....
