BK5: nice knife, needs sheath

I just got a new BK5. And I really like it. The ergos feel great, and I like the blade geometry. Haven't used it for much yet, but I can tell it's a keeper.

However, the sheath is weak. The blade rattles around in the plastic (Kydex?) insert, and I don't need the extra Rambo pockets.

Do you guys have recommendations for a BK5 sheath?

If you want leather Sagewood, MWTIC and Skystorm all make good sheaths. For Kydex Azwelke, Godspeed and 710. To help out for a bit you can dip the insert in boiling water and mold it to fit. That will reduce your rattle.

or you can make a flocked insert out of various materials, for that custom fit. just like the old eagle sheaths. silent both ways.

yup

simplest is takiing something like vinyl or leather that's just a BIT wider than the opening (so it goes around the sides a little), bend it in half, and use a ruler or something to jam it all the way down. you want it long enough to grab onto if you don't like it... then try it with the knife. works? take the strip out, and coat with some kind of glue if you're CONVINCED, or just a couple dots of glue on the bits near the liner top, shove back in, wait... bonus: if you remove the liner before doing this, and then flop the strips over the sides, you could then secure them with rubber band, or twine, or such after glueing... and then replace into the main sheath. this will give you a nice "lip" too. no more rattles.

I did that for my stock bk10 sheath. I like that sheath. A strip of leather was all it took.

I've make ya a leather sheath but I've stepped away from the biz for a while. I highly recommend Sagewood (goose_52 here on the forum).

I just got a sheath for my 16 from the710 & it's perfect. Very reasonable price & out if this world service. I would say that the quality if his work compares favorably with anyone else including azwelke.

Where are ya relative to the Rockies?

Cheyenne. Or in the mountains, depending on the day. ;)

I think I'm going to make some scales for the BK5. I'll either do a sheath myself or perhaps send the finished knife to The 710 for a sheath.

Thanks guys.
