Hey gang, I've been wanting a becker trailing point and almost have my mind made up to buy the bk15. Is there any reason to go with the bk5 over the 15? I will be using ether one in the woods (a bit) and think the bk15 will be more belt-able and fit right in with my current setup (a bk9 & bk11 combo).
How does the bk15 compare to the bk16 at bushcraft?

Thanks in advance!
The Kid

EDIT: I don't want both!!!! (at the moment):D

I own both and love both of them. But the 5 is a VERY large knife and seems to be a little different than the other big backers. I absolutely fell in love with the trailing point design because of these knives.

I would say go with the 15. It's a knife you can actually use for something other than scaring the hell out of people. The 15 is my second most used knife, it would be the first but I use a Mora for all the task I don't want want to dink up my 15 with. :D

Also, in regards to the 16. I would say that that knife is better designed for bush craft. But the 15 is a beautiful piece and deserves a place in any Becker collection.

Hope this helps!

The 15 will see more use and carry time. It's a useful design that grows on you the more you use it. It's Mrs. Trade's favorite knife.

That's very true. The 15 is suitable for EDC, the 5 is more of a specialized tool.

I still say both, though ;)

you need TWO 15s. one for each hand :)

it's a crys knife :>

Both are great knives. But seriously.......... That's like asking...... Do I get the BK-16 or the BK-9? lol
Huge size difference between the two in my opinion.

I was also going to answer your which one question with a "yes"....

You really do need both. That said, I've found the BK5 to be the one that I use most. Probably because, at this point in my life, I do a lot more cooking than I do bush crafting. I know Ethan has stated at least once on the forum that he thinks the BK5 is the most underrated of the Beckers and does make a great bush craft knife as well as camp chores and cooking.

I have a 15, and not a 5. That's what I'd also recommend for you. Though the 5 is soon on my next-to-acquire list, I already have a 9 and a 4 so the "big knife" thing is covered well. The 15 is still a long blade, longer than a BK2 (though obviously much more slender).

You have a 9 and an 11, so your next purchase should be a tweener imho. The 15 is a great choice.

I do have a bk16 which I'm very fond of.

For a large knife, the BK5 wields itself like a smaller blade. Very quick and nimble.
