Hey guys, trying to figure out which of these two should be my(first) "big knife" in the Becker line. Mainly will serve as a camp knife, so firewood, vine clearing, maybe some meat cleaver action ( :D ), and most of all just playing around in the woods. :) Which of these is your favorite? If you were going to have only one "big knife", what would be your choice? Thanks guys!

The 9 is king for a reason.

Very true. There's just something sexy about the curve of the BK5, kind of like a cross between a Persian sabre and a meat cleaver. Though the tip on the BK9 looks like it'd be strong for digging/drilling.

Had the 9. Loved it, but since have got the tweener version of the 5 and now want the 5 too. The 5 seems a bit more versatile. Neither will disappoint.

If you are going to be doing more camp WORK I'd say go with the king. If you're going with more camp cooking, go with the 5.

That said, the 5 will handle everything you have mentioned about wanting it to do.

BK9. It can do this:

I started out my Becker experience over a decade ago with the BK-5. It's still my favorite Becker and my favorite knife of any I've ever had.

Despite the thinnish blade it is much tougher than one might think.

Although I do not own a 5.......yet..........my vote goes to the king. The ultimate woods/camp knife. I absolutely LOVE mine!

That sounds more like a 9 to me. I think it would serve your needs just fine! This thing exceeds all expectations, it's not The King for nothin.

^^Words of wisdom^^

The 9 hits a little harder than the 5 for chopping purposes, and is more suited to boring a hole or recess IMO.

Becker forum answer- Get both and compare for yourself.......................;)

Get the 9...............you'll feel like effing Rambo

Get the 5...............you'll feel like you can food prep like effing Rambo

BK-9 - better chopper
BK-5 - better slicer

BK-9 - more oomph behind the chop
BK-5 - faster & more agile

BK-9 - can be a substitute for a hatchet
BK-5 - can be a substitute for a machete
