Been messin with the 5. Stripped it, tried my hand at patina, think I'll redo it though, with the mustard bubble wrap. My attempt was all over the place. made up a kydex sheath for it, think that came out pretty good. Added a set of Tommy's Zebrawood handles and she is set.

milkyeye milkyeye Looks like you dropped the tip a little bit Or is that the camera angle? Great looking combo:thumbsup:
Well would you look at that. You are right I pulled my other BK 5 out and it's like yours HMMMM. I bought this off off forum member a month ago. Stated it was new, I saw no imperfections in the coating when I received it. Now I'm inspecting real close, and if someone modified this they did an excellent job. Kinda weird though, not sure how I feel about it now. Any chance this was from the factory an earlier addition. If so, I'd feel somewhat disappointed that I didn't use my other one as my project. See this post https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/new-kabar-bk5-sold.1584570/ .
Made up a mount for it today, turned out OK.

Now that I think about it some more, I think I did notice the coating was gone right on the top of the tip, not positive just trying to make sense of it.

This is the info I got from the seller "That knife was exactly as received from Kabar. It was one that came in the BK20 bundles". Anyone have one they know came in the bundle. Man, I wish I was around when these bundle deals came out. Does this still happen?

milkyeye milkyeye If I was field dressing a moose or an elk where I might just use a 5. I would modify the tip like that probably even more. That's the same reason I use the 16 instead of the 15 for field dressing deer. I save the 15 for skinning.

I was suspicious of the QC on the found in the warehouse 2nd batch of 20s. Mine has a horrible grind angle as has others from the second batch. But I don't care i can fix that and its still a Bk20:) That being said.. the Bk5s were just put in the shipping box with the snakecharmer to make the bundle. QC shouldn't have been an issue. I can't imagine in a zillion years that a ground down tip would have slipped past the line inspectors. No Way!!!!

Wow I was soooo wrong. I got so much to learn about knives what to look for and what’s not right etc. thanks for setting me straight
