Hi folks,
I've got a whole lot of smallish knives and wanted something bigger. The biggest I have got is a BM Rant Bowie(~8.5" overall). I wanted something bigger for when I'm out in the bush. I know it's beating a dead horse but I'm just a newbie so not sure if I've overlooked something. The BK7 is the biggest, lots of praise for it but it isn't stainless steel. Is that much of a problem? I kind of wanted a rugged knife that I could not worry about. The Buck 119 is a nice looking knife but I've been told it's similar to the rant bowie, just a bit bigger. It not designed to take a beating, probably like most knives aren't but the BK7 would probably hold up better. Then there's the NRA 12500, haven't heard anything about this knife. I like the 11" length though and it's a nice style and pretty sure it's stainless steel.

Here's the link to it http://www.nraknives.com/products/product_detail.aspx?model=12500

So what would be your choice? Keeping in mind I have a BM Rant Bowie. I always carry that when I'm out hunting or just walking through the bush. Also, I have a few different sized folders and smaller fixed blades so I've got everything smaller covered.

I have both the Buck 119 and the NRA 12500 Osborne. The NRA knife is one of the most comfortable knives I have every held.It comes with a razor sharp blade made out of 440C steel. The sheath is excellent, but I don't like the cheesy stamping on it.

Can it take a bit of abuse? I'm kinda hoping it's so good that it'll be the only knife I carry.

My opinion,I would not feel sorry for my self if it was the only fix blade knife I owned and I have many.As for as being rough on it,you better ask Cliff.(He's the residential expert on blade steel) but I don't think I would do much prying and chopping with 440C.

theres an allen screw in the butt cap that when removed allows you to dis-assemble the handle for cleaning or replacement. It's one of the few knives that I have felt that fits in your hand like a glove.Just the right amount of heaviness.I think its the same knife as the Benchmade CSK.The Benchmade uses D-2 steel and is coated black,so you might consider this knife also.My opinion,on a scale of 1 to 10 for rugged,I give it a 8 but I am no expert.I do have approx.60 fixed blade knives.
