BK7 hikes with a new sheath

I got Skystorm sheaths for most of my Beckers. The one for the BK7 was a wee bit snug. I wanted to be able to whip it out for the Mountain Lions we imagined in another thread :D so I ordered another sheath which you can see here:

The new sheath seemed a bit cumbersome to look at but I found it comfortable to wear and had no difficulty removing the knife and putting it back while hiking. Here are some photos of what I did with the BK7 while I had it out:

The handle material is zebra wood, btw.

Great looking 7, love the scales, the sheath really goes well with it. Skystorm does great work.

Skystorm does indeed do great work, but the second sheath was not his. It was made by KBknives. The two, if my sheaths are any indication have different philosophies of sheath making. Skystorm's sheaths are form-fitting and the leather needs to be worked in order to loosen up. KBknives, at least this one sheath, has created a looser and more immediately useable fit.

I'm presently using the BK7 sheath I ordered from Skystorm for my BK5. I put Micarta handles on the BK5 and it now fits nicely in this sheath.

The next hike I squeeze in will probably be with the BK12 and a Skystorm sheath. The BK12 sheath is form-fitting but perhaps because of the different design has quickly loosened up and is very useable now. When I look at the BK7 in the KBknives sheath and compare it to the BK12 in the Skystorm sheath it seems that KBknives used way more leather than was necessary to account for that extra inch of the BK7's blade. However the KBknives sheath does work -- and only offends my sense of suitability a little -- the leather does look very nice I must admit and in hiking along I could forget the sheath was on my belt. That is, it wasn't flopping or banging against anything. Nor did the knife project out at an angle from my leg. Nor was it weighing my belt down. And when I reached for the knife I could do it without looking and it came out in an instant.

Yeah, I think Tommythewho is a member here so it is okay to mention him. He sells on eBay, scales that fit BK2-12. Just go to eBay and do a search for "Handles for Becker BK2". Tommy uses a variety of woods but there was a zebra wood there the last time I looked.

That sheath is looking good. Can you post pix of the skystorm one too?

These were taken a while ago for some other reason & so other knives & sheaths are included in some of them as well:

I should mention, however, that I worked the sheath with Marine Corps type stain and polish. I didn't take any photos of the sheath as it came from Skystorm.
