I got a little bored the other day and decided to make my first knife sheath for my BK7. I wanted something different more molded to the lower handle. I started with some scrap and soaked it in water for a few minutes. I then changed the grips back to stock and wrapped it in plastic and molded the leather around the handle and blade with my fingers and the back part of a Sharpie. I waited for it to dry and used a heat gun to harden the area around the grip.

I Then cut the back half out.

Glued the two together and gave it a basic shape...

I stitched it in the machine but thought the thread was to thin and decided to stitch it by hand with a much heavier waxed thread...

Mostly finished, I buffed the edges and then applied edge coat, added a few holes for lashing/tie downs and a retention strap...

I'm molding some leather for a tin can and when finished I will use Chicago bolts to attach, more pics on that later. Turned out alright for my first but if I make another I will make a better/different retention strap that goes across the front with a better thumb break.

I'll say that looks pretty darn good for your first.
Can you please list the tools you used? I'll soon try my hand on something similar and it would be great if I know exactly what to buy.

Nice work Herger! The altoids tin idea is very similiar to something I am currently workin on for my BK2 sheath.

I look foward to seeing more pics!

Give me a break. That is not your first sheath. You work at Sullivans making Randall Made Knives sheaths. First sheath. Sheeeez.;)

Really, that is awesome. Great planning and execution. Be careful, you might find yourself taking orders.

A fine and clean work. Hopefully my first sheath had been like that. It looks greater than lots of high end stock leather sheaths

Thanks everyone for the encouragement, I think the natural talent comes from the Nordic side...Ha ha.. Really though I just enjoy making things. I made a leather holster for my 1911 and Sig. I may try Kydex just to see if I can. Thanks again everyone...

Thanks Herger, much appreciated.
Waitin' to see the finished product now.

I do not remember exactly, it was quite a few years ago but I think it was around $650.00. There are quite a few deals out there now, just try and stay away from the cheap imports...
