I was interested in modifying my micarta handles on my BK7 to make a top block for primitive fire making like they have on the ESEE5. I have a mill so doing it would not be a problem. Question is, has anyone in the Becker community made this mod to there's and if so could you tell me how well it worked...

This was questioned a while back, but honestly, I haven't seen one yet. I thought about it myself once or twice. I would say a 1/2" shallow tip bit would be perfect. Make a 3/32" deep cut, and done.

Thanks Moose for the info and the heads up on the email. Also, what kept you from doing it? I did do a seach on micarta, fire block mod, found a whole lot of other info but not this one, sorry for the repeat...

Mainly, I don't use my knife for a bearing block in a bowdrill kit. I just make one while I'm making my kit. I've heard they work great, just never tried it.

i'd imagine that it would work even better to have a metal insert as the bearing.

has anyone used an inline skate bearing in a handle as a bearing block? *that* would rock. imagine setting one of those into a knife handle. frictionless almost.

I think I saw where someone had made a bracelet with a skate bearing as a bearing block. I don't think I've seen one in a knife handle though...
