BK7 on a hike with snowshoes

Hi.

I went for a hike today and brought my BK7 along. My initial plan was to chop some wood with the knife and make a fire when I got to my desired destination, but when I got up there the sun was gone and it started getting cold fast, and seeing as I was only wearing some thin running pants and a T-shirt I thought it would be best to head back home instead. The 7 still got some use when I had to dig myself out of some snow that collapsed around me and when I chose to make a walking stick to make the descent easier.

Thought I'd share some pictures :)

Here is the BK7 posing in the snowscape.

Made myself a walking stick for the trip back down from the mountain. It's spring so the snow has gotten quite soft. And seeing as the trail(or where the trail is under the snow) goes right over a river which would kill me if I fell into it, I thought it would be best to have something to support myself.

Snowshoes are awesome.

I just slide around on my belly like a penguin when the snow gets that deep.

jk, Great pics, thanks for sharing! Love to see Beckers from all over the world.

Fantastic pics! Unfortunately our lack of snow this season allowed me to snowshoe only twice. :(

Thanks. We've had a lot of snow this year, which I see as both good and bad.

Twice is still more than I have. Unfortunately I don’t have as much time for this sort of stuff now that I am a student. In fact this was my first time using snowshoes since I left the army almost a year ago :(

Looking forward to the summer though, got a lot of time on my hands which I will use almost purely to satisfy my crave for interactions with nature :D

You've got some pretty cool looking terrain to play around on! I was only able to get some snowshoeing in once this year here in MN. Lets hope next year is better :D

Hi.

Went jogging in the great outdoors today and brought my bk7 and camera with me. So I'll share some more pictures :)

Gathered some wood with the 7 and made a fire since I didn't get to do so yesterday.

There aren't many things in life that are better than taking a sip from a mountain stream on a warm spring day. This one originated from the glacier not too far above where I was standing.

Took a panorama image of the fjord on my way back. You can click the image for full size.

All in all a very nice day :D

Jogging? Was there a bear or wolf pack after you?! Oh, you're doing it for health reasons, nevermind. :D Beautiful surroundings, thanks for allowing us a look!

Beautiful pics. Your a lucky man to have such beauty so close. Is that a Combat Master sheath ?

Thank you. I truly am lucky with the surroundings.

And yes, that is a combat master sheath. I really like it. So far it is the only nylon sheath I haven’t had any problems with. The dual belt loop is great and the overall quality is pretty much perfect. The only problem with it is that you need to file a slot in the kydex insert for the thumb ramp on your becker.

If you don’t have one then I recommend it highly. Might want to get the black version though, as the coyote brown version blends a little too well into the brush and might get lost.

Very nice pics and knife choice.

Word of advice in that terrain would be to pack a waterproof shell jacket, fleece and toque. Something goes wrong or you just want to hang out, the 4 litres of bulk and 4lbs might save your life or just extend a good day out. Your weather in the mountains is probably the same as here, unpredictable. Sunny one minute and in the span of a half hour.....wind, rain/snow and a drop of 10 degree's.

Regards

Love that panoramic shot! You have some beautiful country there, my friend! Would love to hit up that side of the world someday!

Thanks for the advice, but I know how to handle myself in the forest :)
I grew up spending plenty of time outdoors and I spent a year as part of a small recon team in the Norwegian army and have had survival training in pretty cold conditions. Also the weather here doesn't really change that fast. You can usually see it coming.

But still - Thanks for offering advice. You never know who needs it or not so a good rule is to give it anyway just in case :D . And for the record I agree with your choice of clothing.

Thank you for the pics...that is very beautiful country, that last fjord shot is amazing!

I don't know if I'll ever cross the Pond...but if I do you just put Norway on my list of places I wanna see.

If you do go to Norway some day I got one vital tip for you. Do not go to Oslo. I know the normal thing is to go to the capital when visiting a foreign country, but Norway is an exception. The east side of Norway where Oslo is located is a flat and boring area which reminds me more of Sweden than anything else. You want to go to the west side. We got all the big fjords, the tall mountains and the glaciers.

Personally I love traveling to foreign countries :) . Sure it’s expensive, but the experiences usually make up for the money you lose.

No problem kakefat, your new around here and we had no idea of your skillz, I used to volunteer a few years for SAR in the North shore mountain area around here and spout that advice to anyone who will listen.

Had to help out far too many under prepared people that could have helped themselves with a little more gear and common sense.

Good advice on where to travel Norway, just thinking of your country my mind pictures the terrain you posted. Would be underwhelming to spend all that cash to a featureless area. My wife and I have a Scandinavian fyord type trip on our bucket list years in the future. My great grandmother was norwegian I am told.
Great pics and good to have another outdoorsman around here.
