BK7 or BK9 for camp chores

I was wondering which one you guys prefer strictly for use as a camp knife. Do you like having the extra 2" on the 9 or do you find the smaller bladed 7 easier to handle camp chores?

Just park the car and camp. I like a large blade plus a 4" myself but I wanted to get everyones opinion.

I love my 9, that thing cuts like a dream. I know I was using it to chop everything from small trees to some thing grass like weeds when clearing a spot for my tree stand this year. Admittedly I have never used a 7 so I can't really compare the two of them. All of the chopping did was with the factory edge so I am sure you could squeeze a little more performance if you worked the edge a bit.

I like big knives so I go for the BK9, but I don't have a BK7 yet either. On the other hand, I always carry a BK10 and it ain't that big. Hmm, now I'm just talking in circles sorry!

I got the BK9 just for the purpose you describe. I camp out of my Jeep most of the time, and use a Corona folding saw, the BK9, and a Mora (to be replaced by a BK17).

In my mind, since you're camping out of your car, you don't have to worry about hauling it around so the weight isn't a problem. And it fills the big knife when you need/want one better than the 7 will.

I tend to use the BK9 for most things around camp, short of just whittling around the campfire, and its size never gets in the way for those types of things.

So I'd go with the 9 personally, but you really can't go wrong with either.

Good luck man :D.

Don't own a 9, but for what your intended purpose is, sounds like a good choice. I use my 7 almost exclusively anymore but my normal camp trips are hiking and wandering around all day then just set up camp and hike out the next day so she is a bit more comfortable on the hip.

BK5 will do everything you need a camp knife to do

BK5 and a 14
That's all you need

BK9. Right after my BK2. My 2 tends to spend more time on my hip, but now that I have a badass Azwelke sheath for it, that's probably gonna change.

BK9 is tha King.

I don't actually use my camp knives.
I have my intern cut up things while I'm sleeping in the RV.
After her daily chores are done, I'll have her post about knives here.

Serious answer: 7 will do you unless you're chopping lots of stuff.

That's cute Guyon, is that your intern's ride? I prefer mine...

Serious answer: E is experienced enough to cook with the 9 like it was a chef's knife, but as Guyon stated the 7 is more suited unless you plan on chopping.

Amen. I won't camp in anything that doesn't have air brakes.
