I'm trying to deside which one of those two I should by. Am looking for a 12" to 14" camp knife. They are both in that size range which is making it harder.

The knife would be used for light chopping (have some HI Khukuris for the heavy stuff) and general camp use. I like the tip on the BK9 better so am leaning in that direction. Just wanted to hear other peoples opinions before I ordered.:)

Thanks.

Heber

Since you already "have some HI Khukuris for the heavy stuff", get the BK7.

I have khuks and the BK7. It fills the bill for all my camp chores very nicely.

I saw it on sale for ~$39 on a link .....somewhere.
If you want the link I can get it tomorrow evening.

Well, I have a bk9 and a bk10 and while the bk10 is, for lack of a better term, my "fun" knife, the bk9 is pure prepared-for-whatever security-blanket "function". Not a whole lot that you can't do with a bk9. I wouldn't want to clean a squirrel with it, but that's why my edc is my edc. (Buck Crosslock Solitaire. Pedestrian, I know, but I'd still like to find a couple more of 'em as backup to the inevitable losing of the one I'm using now.)
But I digress. I think that since I'm so accustomed to the bk9, I often wonder if the bk7 wouldn't be sorta anti-climactic. Y'know,"Bigger than my bk10, smaller than my bk9...yeah?...and?"
Tell ya what though, boy. You ABSOLUTELY CANNOT go wrong with a Becker.

I've had both. I sold the BK7. Not because I didn't like it, but because I figured if I needed a knife as big as the BK7, then I probably needed a bigger one (ie: BK9), AND if I needed a knife as small as the BK7, then I probably needed a smaller one (ie: any of several smaller knives I own).

It seems to me that the main reason one would pick the BK9 over the BK7 is chopping ability. Since you already have Khuk's you want to use for that, and you prefer the tip of the BK9, I would say "get a BK10!". It has the same tip-profile as the BK9, and it's much smaller and more manuverable. It would probably make for a good match with your Khuk's.

In fact I think that a BK9/BK10 combo would be pretty great too, OR, a BK9/BK11 (Becker Necker) combo.

Hope that helps,

-John

I think it gets down to this: How many large knives do you want to carry with you while camping or hiking? If you don't mind carrying two large knives then get the BK-7. That way you can use it and one of your HI khuks to cover all your needs. However, if you would rather carry only one large knife (which is my preference) go with the BK-9. It is much tougher than the BK-7 (IMHO) but can do almost anything it can do plus so much more.

Wow! thanks for all the great information.:) A friend had a BK9 for sale and I snagged it up. Talk about good timing. Thanks Mate (you know who you are;)). Well, the knife arived today. And boy, is it cool! Not to mention, BIG!:D

I really like the handle. It fits my hand great. At first I thought a bead blasting would be in order, but after swinging it around a bit I desided that I'll leave it the way it is for now. The Fit and finish is very good.

I am impressed. Don't worry, this bad boy is going camping with me and will recive a good beating.;)
