Hey,
I'm between the bk7 and rd7 bush.
Which knife should i get?
I will be buying a spec-ops sheath for either of these knives.

BK7. Much cheaper and imo much more functional. all the Beckers are amazing. you should probably move this to the Becker Knife and Tool manufacturer forum.

I don't own both of them for a comparison but I do have a BK7 and it is a super blade for a very reasonable price. What are you looking to use the knife for? I really like the weight and light feel of the knife if you are camping or trekking with it.

My, and others, problem with the Ontario models with handle scales are the fit and finish. They are blocky, almost painful to use, and need to be sanded around the edges. Several RD blades I have needed that mod, plus the grind wasn't even.
My BK2 is remarkable, great even edge, nice edge retention, and the overall design of the handle is far better.

It is hard to imagine anything beating the BK7 for that type of knife and at that price. Light and tough. Comfortable handle (if not the world's grippiest). All around, the BK7 is a lot of knife for very decent cash. Saying that you plan to buy a sheath for it cinches the deal. Becker sheaths are not very good IMHO. I'm making a leather sheath for mine.

I will be using this knife for light chopping, batoning smallerish wood, and some smaller work.
i want a lighter knife with good chopping and batoning capability.

Yea + 1 on the handle comment. Especially when you get the micarta scales that thing becomes an extension of your hand. it
feels like nothing can pry it out of your grip. Id go with the BK-7 but then again ive never held or used a RD-7 Bush but i don't
think I ever will.

Like everyone else so far I like the bk7 much more than the rd7, simply for the comfort of the handle. I also like the heat treat from kabar better than ontario. Now if you were going to get a rd7 straight from justin that would be different. He makes a great knife.

BK 7 all the way. My favorite larger bush knife ( with homemade sheath)

becker knives are great but I doubt you'd be disappointed in either. I'd get the BK7, it's cheaper and you get a becker BK13 with it too!

I have a BK9, and an RD6 Bush. The scales on the Ranger needed a whole lot of work just to be useful. I also had a local leather guy make a sheath for it, since the one it came with was absolute crap.

Both knives had fine edges, good edge retention, even grinds etc.

If I were in the market for a 7" knife right now, I'd go BK7. You know it'll be ready to work the second you have it in your hand.

No you don't. That was a limited time thing quite a while back. BK7 is still an outstanding knife and you still get more that what you're paying for but it doesn't currently come with a free BK13.

I'd go with the BK7 as well. Based on what you said. I personally like the RD series from Ontario-but you would have to mod the handle to be comfortable & get a new custom sheath. The BK7 is spot on comfortable right out of the box, all you need is a new sheath but the stock one is certainly adequate, i'm just picky.

I had to spend nearly an hour with sandpaper just breaking all the sharp edges on my RD6 Bush. I still have yet to true up the scales to the tang, that'll take some time by hand.
