BK7... original edge or reprofile?

My bk7 came RAZOR sharp.. the entire length is seriously hair popping sharp.

That said, this edge looks to be very VERY narrow... it looks to be around 4-5mm wide

Would i be better off having it completely reprofiled or is the factory edge durable enough that i should leave it as it is

i am a sharpening retard, so i will have to have it professionally sharpened if i opt to reprofile it

thoughts/experiences welcome

I plan to severely abuse this knife, so durability is the key

I say use it and sharpen as needed. No need to over think it. You can't add thickness to the primary bevel at the edge. Only way is to really grind away some blade with little to no benefit. IMO anyhow.

The way I look at it is if it isn't broke don't fix it. Use and beat on it and see if that thin edge holds up. If is doesn't then convex it or make a wider angle on it. You will need to sharpen it at that point anyways right?

I am still using the factory bevel size. I have touched it up here and here, but even after some serious abuse, the edge retention is superb.

If you aren't familiar with sharpening quality knives, then take some time and beat up on the BK7 for a while, learn what to do and what not to do. Get into a groove with a sharpening stone.

If you get frustrated and want to go next level/different direction (pick one) look at the Fisk sharpening video by AverageIowaGuy on youtube. Convex the BK7!!!!! This will change your knife a bit, but I think in a good way, and you can "correct" all the mistakes you made while you were previously learning.

i'd leave it alone for a while.

later, there's a number of ways to fix it up or change it

If it's anything like the 5 I got I would say you could go thinner. Most companies ship blades with thicker edges then they need to be.

The angle on the secondary bevel seems to be around 35 degrees... just guessing

i typically go with 25 when i reprofile... not as durable, but sharp as hell
