On the BK7 description it says that it can be used to pry. What kinds of things can it pry without breaking? Could it break a lock?

Well, I don't have a BK7 but I do have a BK9 which I really like. I just got it about 6 weeks ago and haven't had time to really abuse it yet, but I don't think I'd try to break a lock with it. I think maybe if you needed to pry apart shingles/lumber maybe dig out a small tree root, things of that nature it would be fine, but it feels as though prying open a door, lock etc.. may be better left to something else. Just my opinion though. Hopefully someone better informed will be along soon.

It's a tough knife, some test results are here. Prying is only briefly mentioned in the summary.

Perhaps they are referring to the full tang which protrudes out back of the handle scales - like a hammer butt. I'd use that to 'pry' but certainly wouldn't wreck the blade on a lock.!!

The BK7 is one hell of a knife! For the money it is probably one of the best fixed blades out there. Takes an excelent hard use edge and keeps it for a full day of hard chopping. And even when it gets dull, a few passes on a medium grit stone will get it back in a bout ten minyutes. I have not used mine for heavy prying but for light to medium work it is excelent. The coating is incredibly tough. The sheath is also really good. It is an incredible knife.
