How does the RAT-7 compare to the bk7? I use to have a bk7 and loved it but I came across a RAT-7 for a really good deal that I couldn't pass up! I'm just wondering if I made a mistake?

I have never used a Rat 7
I have heard a lot of great things, and I don't think you will be disappointed
Congrats on the new blade!

It's never a mistake to own a variety of knives over time to learn from them and compare features. Having said that, there ain't no way the handle on that Rat 7 will be as comfortable as the Becker handle. Also, no way that Ontario 1095 will beat the Kabar 1095 CV.

A mistake?

If after using that RAT7 you still miss your BK7, then well, you have your answer..;)

Don't get me wrong I still love the bk7 and plan on getting it back, it wasn't the best chopper but it was still good at just about everything. Even Mr.Becker says this. I just hope I can expect the same from the RAT. I will find out Tuesday!

I guess it's like this! Lets say you are a die hard Mopar guy, but somebody comes along and offers you a mint Ford Mustang for only $200! Your gunna take it right? ;)

I think it will do just fine, I have heard the handles are kinda blocky and wide but if it fits, use the snot out of it :)

about $40-50? :)

Handles suck, heat treat is sub par, and the F&F looks like my kids made it out of Play-Doh.

And those are the nice things I have to say about it.

Can't say I love OKC. Nothing bad to say about them, just indifferent.
BK&T on the other hand. The 7 is my only complete Becker. With new pants, micarta, etc. Haven't found a 6-8 inch blade worthy enough to replace it. Stopped trying really.

I've handled one, and I didn't like the handle on it. The handles aren't suppose to have sharp edges.

I never feel under knifed with an ESSE.....Jeff and Mike design good and sometimes great knives and the ones made for ESSE by Shon Rowen are some of the best out there for going out there....

All Best...

Got it today, I'm not Gunna take the time to post pics of a non-Becker but anyhoo, it's not bad. I like the bk7 a lot more though. I already had to take a file and sand paper the the scales because they are way too blocky! But the blade is a happy medium on this thing. As far as the heat treat? Idk

It's probably just Gunna sit in my gun locker while my Beckers get to come out and play. BAD!! RAT KNIFE BAD!! Now go st in the corner and think about what you did!
