BK7 Sheath... Boiling? Really?

My BK7 will be waiting for me when i get home

I've been told that i can just boil the entire sheath for a few minutes then put my 7 back in it and push down to make the sheath more secure.

Is this legit or am i going to damage my sheath?

Get a pot big enough to boil the liner in (horizontally), get it roiling and drop the liner in. Make sure you have tongs ready because the liner will be hot, just leave it in for literally 10 seconds or so and it will be soft and malleable. Have your knife taped up and resting on a towel, slide the knife in the flimsy plastic liner and push down to mold it on the knife. Within 1-2 seconds, the liner will harden and boom, better fit - less rattle. If you screw it up, don't worry, just repeat the process until you have it right. Make sure the knife goes in straight though as the ramp pushes the angle.

I have never done this but my understanding is you need to remove the plastic liner first.

The way you said the whole sheath has me worried you plan to actually throw the whole sheath in the pot. Just the liner goes in.

Is the liner removable from the stock sheath? I've molded a Spec Ops sheath, but never the stock sheath.

I seem to remember a thread some time ago where someone ruined their sheath trying to get the liner out. I wanna say it's glued and/or stiched in???

It was im-freakin-possible to get the liner from my BK9 sheath out. Good luck with that.

For the stock 7 and 9 liners... well you have to do a lot of work to get them out. I primarily have SpecOps sheaths for most of my knives so it's wayyyy easier.

I have had luck removing the factory liners with a sharpened fondue skewer.
