BK7 Stippling Job, With Pictures

Having stippled the grips of several Glock pistols, I decided to try stippling the grip of my new BK7. I didn't want the stippling to be as aggressive as on my Glocks, I just wanted to be able to hold onto it a little better. I used the fine point of my wood-burning tool and, holding it at a slightly tilted angle, tapped the grip quickly in varying directions till the entire surface was covered. I then sanded it lightly with 600-grit sandpaper. The result is exactly what I wanted feel-wise, and I think it looks pretty good too.

Thanks jarodmichael and beckerhead. From the time I picked up my heat tool till the time I was completely satisfied with the results (being a perfectionist), it was about two hours. I did it while watching TV.

Excellent stippling! The scales have an interesting texture, just enough grip but not enough to rasp the skin off your hands.

I haven't been a big fan of this type of handle mod in the past. But this one I like.
Doesn't look like it would rip you up like, some of the others did.

Good job.

Thanks y'all. I was purposely trying not to make it too coarse, and fortunately the results came out perfect. I can slide it in my hand without abrasion but it still gives a good, solid gripping surface.

Great work! I would like a pair of those. The glock looks good too, I wanted to do that at one point but I could not commit myself to do it.

Excellent! I think it was a good idea to sand it down a little following the stippling. Looks totally functional as well as aesthetically pleasing! Well done!

I wanted to do that at one point but I could not commit

That Glock was my first effort. I was nervous about trying it but it really turned out to be pretty simple. If I can do it anybody no one else should have much trouble.

Could you show us the tip you use for heating?

Thanks!

Glad to. It's the smallest, pointiest in the set, but like I said I held it almost sideways (maybe about a 30 degree angle) when tapping the handle with it. I used the same tip on the Glock but used a different technique and went a little deeper.

You could probably pick some side work reworking grips for people. Cheaper than buying the micarta and I think they're better looking too.

Very nice work, they look like they came from the factory like that. I have seen others that looked a little more "home made" looking. You better set some time aside I bet your gonna get lots of requests for your handy work. ;)

Thanks cramsey3006 and Idaho Guy. I have to say, the grips do feel great now, that minor stippling changed the whole dynamic of the feel of the knife in my hand.

That's one of, if not the, best stippling jobs I've seen. Sweet work.
