BK7 vs. BK9

Well my BK7 is on it's way to a young Marine, who is on the Iwo Jima off the coast of Liberia. I figured he could use it more than I could, specially against kooks like this

.
So now I'm lookin' to replace it with maybe a BK9, but I sure did like the BK7. What do you guys suggest?

1. It's not a good idea to go up against a sissy-looking guy who has long, bright red hair and one glove, who's carrying an AK47, with just a knife...Even if it is a BK7!.:D.

2. I'd get another BK7 if I were you, unless you plan on doing alot of chopping and hacking, as that's where the BK9 outshines the BK7.

Well I wouldn't waste any ammo on a pink haired sissy boy, but then again if he's brave enough to wear that garb, maybe he ain't so sissy.
Is there anyother difference in the two besides the extra 2" of blade on the BK9? Same thickness? etc. I'm already having withdrawals from the BK7:rolleyes: , but at least it will get used and not just sit in the knife drawer.

Cavedweller,

The BK7 is .188" thick and the BK9 is .210" thick. The BK9 obviously also has more front end weight making it a superior chopper. The BK7 is more balanced and feels quicker in the hand for fighting though the BK9 is no slow poke either. The BK7 also weighs 12.9 oz while the BK9 weigh in at 18.25 oz.

I would say if you don't mind the extra 2 inches and weight the BK9 would be my pick. It can handle anything the BK7 can plus more. When I was recently in the field I was using a 7 inch Ka-Bar and I always went back to the BK9 because IMHO, it handled all the same tasks with less work and effort from me!;)

I'm sure the BK9 might be a bit bulky for some really fine tasks but so far I've had no problems with using for big and small jobs.

Just my 2 cents.

Also, the tip (clip-point) on the BK9 is alot shorter (more blunt) than that of the BK7, which makes the BK7 alot better at stabbing as well as "fine" work.

I think I'm gonna take the easy road and get another BK7, Knifeworks has them as an August special for $42.99 + shipping.
