So I made the decision to sand off the grind lines and go for a full polish on the BK7.
Long ago I polished my BK11. It was a lot of work and I swore I'd never do it again! Lol
I'll keep you all posted here on the progress.

A quick question...
I had given this BK7 a light sanding before giving it a dark vinegar patina.
I took it out of the kydex sheath the other day and noticed strange, almost rust-like smears on a few areas of the blade. Usually I dont keep my knives stored in their sheaths. I figured it would be fine with the patina though.
I should have gotten pics...
I do remember some areas of the blade that had some faint signs of the coating left on before the patina.
Were these marks from those areas?
Did the marks appear from improper storage?
Or was it from not having the blade totally clean before the hot vinegar patina?
Something else...?

And by the way, I know what you all are wanting to ask...
Yes. That is a genuine ShamWow! in the second pic.

When I put a patina on my BK2 it did the same thing. I'm assuming it was rust...patina protection is overrated, sanded down and reapplied the patina and some oil and it didn't happen again.

I agree. After my last patina experiment I decided that I'm going to leave the protective coatings on for as long as possible regardless of how crappy they look. The original coating protects much better than just oil.

So I had been doing a little bit of sanding here and there when I could find time.
I just about had all the grind lines out when something must have gotten stuck under my sanding pad.
Before I knew it the whole side of the blade was covered in deep scratches.
Lol. They were as deep or deeper that some of the factory grind lines.
Oh well...
I cleaned it up with some 220, 400 and decided to put a patina back on.
I added some subtle gray liners.
I also grinded the swedge down a bit and plan on trying to make it look more like a traditional bowie.
I'm still on the fence about the thumbramp.
This has kind of just turned in to my "free time garage project", so I'll keep you all posted on progress. :D
