BK9 7"mod?

I got a BK9 and a BK10 last week and I've found myself wishing the 9 was a bit shorter and the 10 was bit longer. And I really don't care for the longer clip point of the BK7.

A forum search finds lots of 9 mods but none that I saw changed its length. Surely one of the master craftsmen here has already tried shortening a 9 to 7" with something like the 9's short clip point or a drop point like the 2. Yes?

the 9 and 7 do not have the same blade geometry unless the 7 is ground very high. (are the kabars? I didn't think so)
I prefer the looks of the long clip on the 7, but like the deep edge of the 9 for chopping.

No, the BK12 is not the answer cuz I'm not looking to buy. Just curious if anyone has tried to do it.

well...got the same idea with the BK7. So I shortened it to a 5-5,5inch blade. The project was a huge pain in the but I really like the outcome. Here's a link: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...’ish-modification-project-FINISHED-pics-at-21

Yeah, something like that.

Like I said, with all the awesome mods by some very talented 'smiths I've seen posted here, I'd be surprised it hasn't already been tried.

One piece of advice I'm given, whenever I start to think about a project to undertake, is to determine what your time is worth. How many hours will you be investing in shortening the BK9 to the desired length? Factoring in hourly wages, what amount are you looking at by the time you finish grinding, shaping, and sharpening to the degree you want it?

Meh, if we all thought that way we would never undertake projects to learn something new. Nobody pays me to sit in my recliner and watch tv. Thats the time Im using to do mods to my knives.

I just recently got a bk9 that was shortened to 6.5". It looks like it was done well but the edge is very thick. It is a Camillus version too so you can imagine. I haven't had the chance to test it out yet. I'm sure it will chop better than the BK2 and BK10 but definitely not better than a full size 9.
