Being bord is boring so I took the old BK9 out the front and chopped up some silly stuff.
It actually held up really well and had very little edge damage. It wasn't going to be
shaving hair or slicing paper but it took all of 5-10 minutes to get it back to that.:)

After a couple of 2x4s I went for a brick or two. First I cut a brick into two pieces.

Then I cut a brick into lots of pieces. The edge was still untouched after the 2x4s and the brick only caused some minor dings and rolls.

After a couple of bricks it was still able to slice a dog food can in half.

It had no problems going through the base of the can either.

The BK9 is a geat chopper and a knife I like alot. I am rather unkind to my BK9 as it's not exactly and expensive knife but it still keeps on ticking no matter what.
You may also have noticed that I reprofiled mine to give it that big, bad ass bowie look, it suits the knife well IMO :thumbup:

Did you chop the can or did you use elbow grease to slice it?

Either way the blade is looking good with the personal touches. Don't like the uberfat tip myself.

That can was chopped, along with the other 5 or 6 cans that it got through. Juice cans were just being
laughed by that knife so the pooch food cans were an attempt at something a bit more of a challenge :)

Were these free standing cans?

I notice that when doing the water bottles, soda cans, etc... that if you don't get all the way through clean it throws it across the room. I see you left a bit on the pictured can but it certainly speaks for your technique if there was no weight or fastening of the can.

Yup, they were free standing emptie cans. I used to practice by puting a can, bottle or card tube on the edge of a table to get the technique for cutting right through and past. When cutting on a block you just need to do the same thing but really make sure you chop into the block.
I find a lot of folks tend to stop too early with out thinking about it and that results not much cutting being done :p

I've got vids somewhere of the BK9 cutting doubled up beer cans and plasic bottles etc. I'll see if I can find them and post one or two up.:)

Right on. I asked because I noticed your angle was very similar to what I get from the edge of the table routine. Interesting that you didn't get any big-ass edge chips from the lid rim or just hammer it into the block without cutting it.

Yea, the edge held up real well actually. That knife has been convexed which may or may not have helped with that sort of thing.

There is only one good chip out the edge on that knife but that's from someone borrowing the knife for a hike and hitting a rock.

really dig the bowie reprofile. how'd you do that?

I reprofiled it using a belt sander, you just have to take it slow and make sure not to let any heat build up in the blade. (If it gets too hot you'll goose the heat treat)

I would not chop bricks with any of mine.I would only if it were a absolute emergency.
why why why!

Why do people climb mountains? Because they can. :D Knife abuse. Fun to see what it can do. Not recommended, but hey, to each his own. :D

p.s.
Hey everybody....Be sure to do the crazy fun stuuf at home in a non survival situation..... When the feces are blowing thru the vents, husband your edges, your blades and all your other gear..........Test all your gear to see what it will do- but test where the consequences are paying postage back to the mfg for warranty work and not with your tail....ethan
